Gates Millennium Scholarship - 2008-2009

oh thats cool!

Er well it's different for people in different time zones....

are you guys sure the extension is not just for the nominator and recommender? It said it's been extended for the nomination process, but are the nominees included? Does anyone have an answer? URGENT!!!!

Hamman, I'm sure they extended it due to website problems, so they would extend for all three, not just the student. Site says due to high volume so they are not expecting nominator and reccomender to be able to get through any easier than the nominee. JMO
oh, just reread your post, so ????? I bet you can call them, they have been keeping long hours, DD reached them by phone late on Saturday.

hamman, extended for all, I called, they are available till midnight tonight. Good luck

Thanks GaMom, can anyone else verify that?

1-877-690-4677 I'm sure they could verify for you what I found out for you.

you can call them today they close at 12 midnight

Hey guys,

Just called 1-877-690-4677 and the deadline IS extended to Monday, period. I can't believe the phone lines are operating until midnight--crazy how nice this scholarship is for us applicants. =)

Hey, what are you guys writing down as your weakest subject?
Also, what would they considered a "short term" goal. Like getting accepted to college or getting st8 A's?

Thanks!

"Hey, what are you guys writing down as your weakest subject?"

For this question you don't have to write about an academic subject, but it can be anything you have a problem or have struggled with. I wrote about how my piano skill...well...sucks.

"Also, what would they considered a "short term" goal. Like getting accepted to college or getting st8 A's?"

I can guarantee you that 90 out of a hundred applicants will put getting into college. I was a bit more creative, or so I like to think, and wrote about the history paper I was writing during the time and how I was using historical method to analyze the materials and judging who is credible and who is not. It was actually quite fun. So my advice is to try and break the mold and not be the with crowd. No matter how magnificent "I want to get into college because..." GMS would be tired of reading it after it has read thousands like it before (the exception being you're homeless or a migrant worker who travels with the season).

P.S.
I won the Gates scholarship three years ago is working to recruit students to apply to the scholarship. If you read the thread from last year and the year before that, you would see I have posted a lot so feel to ask questions and I'll try to answer them the best I can.

one question, did anyone include their SAT/ACT scores? I have pretty decent scores and think it'll benefit my application. If anyone did, where did you put it?

^ Gates does not consider SAT or any standardized test. It will not benefit you one bit.

Reddune--
is there anyways you can critique my essay?
I would tremendously help me out alot.
I would really appreciate it!
Please email me @ friggyjiggy@yahoo.com

Thanks!

Hi, I was wondering if the essay questions change every year or do they stay the same? Thanks, this thread is great!

While the wording has changed slightly since I applied in 2006, the core of each question has remained the same. They should stay the same for next year.

Thanks so much Proud Husky for reading my essays!! It helped a lot. Each essay is a page long (except for the first one) and I just submitted it. Wooooo. Good luck everyone!!

I was wondering if the GMS covers Med School? I saw on another thread that it doesn't, but isn't that a 'Science', which GMS said it would cover for grad school. Thanks!

Hello guys ... I have a question.

When i was half done with my application (my nominator and recommender had already sent her stuff in earlier), someone from GMS actually CALLED my house and asked me why I hadnt submitted the application yet as my recommender and nominator had done it already. I was shocked, as I've never seen scholarships CALLING applicants to remind them to finish up.

Is it standard procedure?
