They weed out the people whose EFC is over the requirement... other than that, I don't know.

can someone verify that for all the email notifications so far, what are the subject lines saying??? Mine says "Gates Millennium Scholars Finalist"

Mine says "Gates Millennium Scholars Finalist" also.

mines says the same thing

Mine said finalist as well.

did anyone get one that says "Gates Millennium Scholars Semi-Finalist"

hmmm, this is weird...

i guess someone should call tomorrow and see whats up.

guys i dont think there is such as thing as semifinalists anyone

Yeah, I thought some people were using finalist and semifinalist interchangeably, both meaning that they advanced but hadn't been handed any cash yet.

lol

Maybe the word finalist means you're up for the scholarship or something.

the GMS gives you a full ride anywhere rite?

Pretty much, I would think.

ok, just to clear all this up:

"In early March, Nominees will be notified if they are selected as a Finalist or not selected.
Beginning late March, Finalists will be notified if they are selected as a Gates Millennium Scholar or not selected."

That's from the website, meaning there is no such thing as Semifinalists. You either get the scholarship or you're a finalist

OH man, i'm so worried now. My friend just called me, telling me that he got it. BTW, i'm Asian. I saw the previous posts, some people got it. Does anyone know if the majority asian got the notification? Else, i'm just hopeless.

the process of selecting finalists was solely based on essays, the recommendations, and the nominations right?

That's for the clarification, Hamman. That's what I thought, so I'm thrilled right now, but I don't wanna get ahead of myself. I haven't won it yet. :D

I'm pretty sure that that's all our decisions are based on. That was all that they asked from us.

**Ok guys, listen up. If you haven't gotten an email yet, don't give up. Maybe tomorrow is the lucky day?

Calm down and finish your homework or watch TV or something and imagine an email or a letter waiting for you tomorrow declaring that you're a finalist.

Cross your fingers!! Make a wish!! We will all succeed, with or without this scholarship!**

do any of you kno the statistics of how many were chosen finalists last year, and out of those, how many actually got the $
