Well that’s good to know, since at even at the most liberal, accepting school. it is first and foremost a prep school, not Pride week in the Castro.

@skieurope Indeed. I just need a chilled place. I’m not into pride.

Cross Culver and Stonybrook off your list as not as receptive as others to Gay students. I would stick to schools in the more liberal coastal states. A coed environment would be better for a Gay student.

Choate does not tolerate intolerance:

@ChoatieMom Unfortunately, I can’t consider Choate because it is not approved by the organisation that’s funding me. Could you pick any from that list? :)

@ChotieMom Choate looks absolutely fantastic though…wow Is there anywhere similar on my list?

@Damaris Thanks, will do! Any more recommendations would be fantastic, as I said, I know very little about these schools!

I am not familiar with all the schools you list, but I would feel very good about both Mercersburg and Westminster around this (as well as many other things). It is too bad your options are limited, but you do have good choices that will meet what you are looking for.

@BlairParent Great! Any you would avoid?

No. However, I do not know enough about all the schools on your list.

St. Paul’s is a super accepting. We have a huge GSA and a lot of students and teachers are out.

@spsstudent17 Unfortunately, I can only consider schools on the list in my first post. Could you give me advice with regard to those schools? :)

Sorry, @scottishbritish, but I only have first-hand experience with Choate. Perhaps someone else who knows Choate will know how it compares to others on your list. Good luck!

Well, if you’re not into the whole rah-rah pride thing, you might like Lawrenceville. Just avoid the WASP-y crowd. As long as you’re not too flamboyant (not saying all gay guys are, but that’s definitely a stereotype), you’ll be fine I think. We have a couple of out teachers that everyone loves.

I’d suggest Andover, but I might be a little biased.

Hmm. Last fall, Andover hosted a GSA conference, and of the schools on that list, only Taber came. Most schools have a “clubs/organizations” page on their website, so I would check out if they have a GSA. And if they don’t, don’t be discouraged. Every movement needs someone to spark the flame. Best of luck.

Is this a list of schools that you are submitting applications to? Or are you deciding where to apply? I would suggest that after you admitted you ask the question of the school. Ask them if they can connect you with an out student who can discuss his experience there with you. If they balk at the question it is probably not the right place for you.
@LifeLongNYer I specify the school(s) I want to attend through a programme to attend boarding school in America. I’ll be given a place at ones I want.
Also, I get what you mean about connecting with an “out” student, but I don’t think that would work. I don’t know how school administrations would know these things about students’ personal lives.
I can’t say for sure, but I would think Woodberry Forest is too conservative/Southern for you in this regard. Stony Brook identifies as “Christian” and, so might also be conservative. Maybe take a look at club listings for each school and see what you find?
NMH ALL THE WAY. CURRENT STUDENT KINDA OUT BI, NO PROBLEMS SO FAR REALLY EMBRACING COMMUNITY IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS JUST MESSAGE ME!!
