Gay friendly prep boarding schools?

Hello, does anyone have experience or know of how gay-friendly the following prep schools are? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Avon Old Farms
Culver Academies
The Governor's Academy
Kent School
The Lawrenceville School
Mercersburg Academy
The Stony Brook School
Tabor Academy
Westminster School

Stevenson School (CA)
Western Reserve Academy
Woodberry Forest School
Ravenscroft School

lol Lawrenceville student here. cross the school off your list. look into Choate and Concord.

I would also rule out the all-boys schools.

Is Lawrenceville anti-gay? I hadn’t heard that about the school.

All boys schools aren’t necessarily anti-gay as a whole. It depends on the culture of the school…

I wouldn’t use the word “anti-gay”, but when you have a bunch of teenage boys living together, homophobic sentiments are inevitable.

@Snowybuny: Lawrenceville isn’t anti-gay, but there are better BS choices for a gay person. I’m speaking from the perspective of a straight student here.

The Putney School is a very open and supportive campus for both students and faculty.

@MBVLoveless Thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, I am restricted to only the schools on that list for reasons that I cannot explain. Could you give insights into any of the other schools?

Also, what in particular is poor about Lawrenceville? And are you sure I should avoid all-boys schools? In my experience, guys can be very chilled about sexuality. I was quite keen on Avon Old Farms. Should I avoid?

Lawrenceville is relatively conservative, from what I’ve seen here.

Choate seems very gay-friendly from what I’ve seen and heard from people who go there.

@NChopeful I can only consider the schools on that list.

Is there any reason for that?

Okay, just based on reputation alone, I know that some of these schools are mildly conservative. Not that they are bigots, just that they are certainly not one to throw a pride parade. It’s frustrating, but some school’s are just like that. AOF is school that I am quite sure has gay students, but who knows how accepting all-boys schools are? It’s very frustrating, I’m sure. Don’t worry! There is a school out there perfect for you!

@MrNephew It’s for reasons in relation to funding :)

@HistoryGeek40 I’m not particularly fussed about having big gay events at a school. :stuck_out_tongue: I just want to be somewhere where it wouldn’t be a problem, wouldn’t pose barriers to making friends and where I wouldn’t feel singled-out or vulnerable around everyone. Obviously the more liberal ones will probably be better. Which ones are deemed a little more conservative? I won’t rule them out solely on this inclination, but it’s good to know.

Most likely Govs, Lawrenceville, Stony Brook, and possibly Avon.

Those aren’t going to be the schools that like… socially isolate you. I’m just not terribly sure what their communities would be like. Practically every school is accepting though, and every boarding school has had gay students. I promise you would be happy at most of these places :)

My son (straight) is at an all boys school and has several out friends…it hasn’t seemed to be a major issue.

@HistoryGeek40 That’s great to know! The high school I go to at the moment has posters up against homophobia around the school and a few rainbow flags, and nobody minds if somebody is gay, it’s not really a big issue. We don’t even have a GSA. I’d enjoy a similar environment! So are there any I should avoid?

@Ramon712 Great! I didn’t imagine it would be in a liberal environment.
