Northwestern...there are a lot of girls into girls, and Rainbow Alliance is well-funded and active.

I always thought NYU had the highest Gay population

The breed of gays there is different from the ones at Northwestern though.

LOL. They have breeds now? Were those pamphlets right??

Don't know why you took WashU off your list. It's about the gay-est school I've ever been to.

GWU! totally accepting of anyone's background, sex and religious preferences.

Why is that ? What makes WashU the gayest school?

consider looking at Vassar & Sarah Lawrence (and maybe Bard?) - all easier than your Wesleyan/Brown/Yale etc

I always figured Michigan State must be pretty gay-friendly. I went to summer music school there when I was in high school, oh, 33 years ago. There were flyers all over for their student group for gays. I'll never forget them: "Lesbians, Faggots, and Queers, oh my! Come to the MSU (can't remember the actual name of the group, but it was a gay support group) Club meeting." Catchy! I figure any school that advertised like that way back then, when it wasn't acceptable to do so, must be pretty inclusive & tolerant.

According to the Princeton Review, the top 20 best schools to be gay at are:

kelsmom you're right, MSU is VERY gay friendly. LBGT is one of the most powerful student groups on campus.

That's not an ugly word... BE PROUD.

The Advocate Guide voted Northwestern one of the most gay-friendly in the country:
The Daily Northwestern - LGBT Magazine Ranks NU Among Most 'Gay-Friendly'

Also, we're currently petitioning for gender-neutral housing for this fall. We already have gender-neutral bathrooms and a nondiscrimination policy that includes gender identity in addition to sexual orientation (this is rare among colleges nationwide).

See the gender-neutral housing petition here:

Bard has a big homosexual population and everyone here is very accepting. I'm straight, but I have atleast two guy friends here who are gay (there are a few who haven't come out, but have shown that they are most likely gay by hitting on/hooking up with guys when they were drunk) and multiple girl friends who are lesbian/bisexual.

According to The Advocate, UPenn and USC are tied for #1 for LGBT students.

First you may want to petition NU to let the opposite sex stay overnight. That they don't is absolutely preposterous for such a progressive university.

That is so laughable that USC is on that list. In my (admittedly short) life experience, I have never encountered more homophobia amongst both students and locals here at USC and south central Los Angeles.

You should check out BYU!

I'm probably far too late to help but WashU (go there) and Northwestern (live nearby) are both extremely gay friendly. My firsthand experience is obviously from WashU and I've never experienced such acceptance (although, it may be more difficult for women). GLBTIQ people are accepted in every facet of the community - every greek house has them (and one of my best friends is "big man on campus", business council president, and in SigEp(one of the most sought after frats)). Just in case you decided to put it off til next semester...

Wayward trojan would you care to elaborate more on your encounters with homophobia. I always thought it was a pretty progressive school. Do you get the general feeling that most of the students are homophobic or is it just small pockets of students? I would not be too surprised about the locals being homophobic but I would be surprised that the students are. I'm applying to USC and I would just like to know more.
