Gay life at Gtown?

how well represented is the GLBT community at gtown? is it frowned upon by students/administration? are there many options in dc?

There are a million options in DC...DuPont Circle tends to be a favorite hangout spot for the GLBTQ community in the city. At Gtown there's the student organization GUPride. We also have a special coordinator for glbtq students...Bill McCoy. In all honesty, there are a lot of homophobic students at Gtown and the word "gay" gets thrown out more often than it should. But you'll find that's the case at most universities anyway.

I was visiting Georgetown a few weekends ago to hang out with a friend from high school who goes there, and she mentioned that the gay life is a bit restricted at Georgetown. Another friend who lives in my hometown who just graduated from there also said the same thing.

I personally love Georgetown, and it was the school I was going to go to hands down, and then last minute chose my school instead. I still love it, and have gone to party there twice in the past year. But from what I know, they gay scene is limited and you have to leave campus (dupont circle (froot loop) ) to enjoy yourself.

I go to Dartmouth and I never hear "that's gay" or anything. I think I'm comparing what I know of Georgetown a lot with what I know about Dartmouth now, but I guess I expected Georgetown to be more liberal when it came to that than Dartmouth, and then I came to school and found that it was the exact opposite. You'd be shamed if you made fun of gay people here, and the gay scene is pretty evident, whereas I'm not sure this is the case at Georgetown.

you usually hear two extremes on campus:
-people who want everyone non-catholic to stay away from GU (Right to Life groups for example). They think this college is not Cathlic enough.
-people who are tolerant and want the above group to grow up. (supporters of pro-choice)
You can also find plenty of people in the middle who are trying to get away from the constant battles of the 2 groups above.
