I searched already, and there is no existing thread on gay life, so I was wondering if any current or past students could tell me about gay life at HMC. Or students from other of the 5C colleges, if they know anything about it. Thanks.

Here’s an old thread on the subject. I think it’s still pretty accurate.

I could try to answer any more specific questions, though I’m not the most informed person out there. I could also give you the email addresses of the current co-presidents of PRISM if you’d like.

Wow, does that thread bring back some memories. I would be more than happy to talk with you about queer life on campus!

I’m a Straight Mudder, but literally half of my close friends are LGBTQ, and they love it here. My dorm has Pride flags on many of the windows, and nobody makes a big deal when two people of the same sex hook up. We’re also pretty good about using the correct pronouns for trans people.
I agree there are quite a few LGBTQ kids at Mudd. Honestly… I think they are working so hard that finding time to date anyone can be challenging, especially freshman & sophomore year – but there are definitely partners around, and it isn’t a big deal if you are LGBTQ. Plus you have the whole consortium pool socially (although maybe there are fewer LGBTQ kids at CMC, but I am sure the other 3 schools have plenty).
One of my gay friends complains that there aren’t enough gay guys to date, but I’m a straight girl and I have a hard enough time dating just because I don’t get much time to devote to dating. As MuddDashL said, there is a pretty strong LGBT culture especially at certain dorms (East).
