I hear that GE's Financial Management Program is pretty prestigious. Will I have a shot at a top 15 business school if I do this program, given that the rest of my application is solid? Anyone w/ experience?

Yes. GE, even for its management programs, hires from all over the place. Your school will not hold you back (it sounds like this is what you were worried about. I apologize if I inferred incorrectly).

He's not asking if he can get into GE Financial Management - he's asking whether the GE Financial Management Training Program will help him get into top15 business schools(graduate).

Indeed 10 char.

GE is a major feeder to HBS, and GE FMP is the most prestigious program at GE. GE FMP is the most prestigious program of its type. It might be the most prestigious entry level position at a F500. After the program ends you will get the opportunity to prove yourself in a variety of business roles at GE. This is exactly the kind of work experience that MBA schools are looking for. Bottom line, It will be fine work experience for any business school.

I've heard that GE frowns upon students leaving for MBA's. GE does extensive training (which includes actual classwork). A MBA is seen as unnecessary given the in house learning. Also as a whole, the company is not dying to invest in you only to have you go go somewhere else after you've built up your human capital. This might hurt you when it comes to getting recommendations and the like.

Ultimately I think these handicaps can be overcome if you really want B-School. Like anything else, FMP won't get you into a top B-School by itself, but its an excellent start.

There are other considerations to think about before doing FMP. Depending on which BU you do you may have to move every sixth months while you're in the program. Also GE has a fairly distinct culture which is not for everyone. There's a GE way of doing things. But I'm sure you've thought about these things.
