Gen Chem vs Orgo

I'll be an engineering student this fall, and assuming I do well on chem placement test, which course should I take to fulfill the chem prereq. Which one has a better grade dist / easier to get an A, and which requires less time. I have a friend doing premed that says that Orgo was actually better than Gen Chem for a few reasons, but I want your guys's input as well.

I think Orgo definitely takes more time commitment to do well than gen chem.

I took Orgo and had a hard time with it, but almost everyone else I know who took it aced it and thought it was super-easy so I don’t know. I’m definitely not much of a “science person” so that could be a contributor. Also I took it my first semester and perhaps wasn’t as prepared for it as others who took it in subsequent semesters.

I’ve heard that the Gen Chem lab is horrible. By contrast the Orgo lab is a guaranteed A if you show up and do anything.

Not to hijack this thread or anything…but how hard is the placement test? I took AP Chem as a sophomore in high school and I didn’t devote much time to it, so I ended up with a lowly 3. Apparently, I’ll only get the 5 credits associated with it, if I do well on the placement exam. I mean how should I prepare for this? I was planning on brushing up on some of the topics with my old AP review books, but is that enough?

The Chem placement test is very easy. Regardless the results are non-binding. You could get every single answer wrong, they won’t actually stop you from signing up for Orgo.

I placed in the bottom 10th percentile on the placement exam (tried for a little bit, didn’t know how to do any of it so I guessed on the rest), but I thought gen chem was the easiest A+ ever. They literally throw extra credit at your face. The lab is a little work, but isn’t too hard to get an A in. I heard the lab is more dependent on your GSI though (mine was really good).

yosup, if you don’t mind me asking, what section/prof did you have for 125-126-130

Lab grade is very dependent on GSI and will be a ton of work for a 2 credit course.

Chem lecture isn’t hard but the HW can be very annoying.

Does AP Physics B get you credit for CoE, general, elective or otherwise.

I believe it’s either general or elective. I know for a fact that it doesn’t count towards direct CoE requirements, which is why I didn’t choose to take it.
