If on the course registration page for GenChem it says "Full" does that mean I have no shot of getting into the class? I heard that they shut down the physics registration recently, but that chem registration is romped up during the summer.

right now I am in physics, but I may change my mind later on in the summer about if I want to take GenChem. So, will there be room opening up for freshman? What about the subsections?

Yes, there will be room.

GenChem will up registration to ~300-350 per section.
Last years enrollment for the 3 sections were 196, 355, and 350. You’ll get in for sure.

Same for the subsections. Worst case scenario is you /might/ get stuck with 9am, but you will get in.

Huh? Not sure if I’m reading this right. Physics registration is not closed permanently. It’s been that low since it opened back in April - to purposefully keep spots for freshmen. They only admit into 197 off of the waitlist. Generally each section will have ~100 students in it. Registration hasn’t even opened yet for freshmen engineers (tomorrow morning I think?) - that’s usually what fills it.

But just like chem, if you want to take physics you can… it just might not be the section you want.

[op I know you’re already registered for physics, but I figured I’d still post that for others reading]

Hi so I know that physics 197 purposely keeps spots open for freshmen, but how many waitlisted students get into it? I’m #86 on the waitlist, so do I have a shot? Also, how many students get off of the waitlists for the subsections?

In years past, each section typically has 100-130 students.

I’m going to guess that your on bernys wait list? Unless the department has drastically changed its philosophy on the class, you’ve got a snowballs chance in hell at getting in.

I really can’t see Bernatowicz agreeing to a 200 person class… Especially since there appears to be plenty of room in other sections.

Edit: just double checked- he capped at 121 last year. Demand hasn’t gone up- there’s no way he’s gonna up his section all that much.

If it were me, I’d get on the waitlist for another section… But I wouldn’t want to risk getting one of the poor teachers (eg I couldn’t stand Gibbons when he filled in for one of my classes).

thank you. so i checked, and my options are Ferrer, Wagoner, Israel, and Hynes. anyone have any suggestions? in addition, since registration began yesterday, i’d need to keep in mind how long the waitlists will be, so which professors’ classes will i have the best chance of getting into? thanks!

My advisor told me to go with Hynes.
