General Advice concerning pre-med courses.

I'm currently in my second year of college and am trying to build a semester schedule for next year. My advisor didn't tell me whether it's something I should do, but if would you advise, students to take-

Calculus 1
Anatomy & Physiology 2 (with Lab)
Chemistry 2 (Just Lecture)
Professional Writing
Medical Vocabulary

The classes would be all in one semester. Would you claim this as a overload or reasonable load? I'm not working, but am currently - trying to make sure my GPA stays well since I'm having trouble with MicroBiology this semester. :</p>

Thanks very much for your opinions!

No, I don’t think that’s too much.

Nobody can say whether you’ll be able to handle it or not, only you can know that. That said, most premeds will have science/math heavy semesters, and I wouldn’t call yours heavy at all.

Also, medical vocab seems like a waste of a class. Why not take something interesting, or another gen ed/major requirement?

If you are taking medical vocab for fun, go ahead. If you are doing it to get an edge some how in the application process or medical school, it is not going to help.

I can’t see how medical vocab would be fun, and it seems like it would also be pointless if someone is considering going to medical school.

I thought to make it easier with taking Medical Vocabulary.

I looked into taking Zoology, but doubt that would actually help me?

Zoology will usually count towards bio reqs I believe.

And unless you’re doing it for fun, I wouldn’t take med vocab to help for med school. You’ll more than likely forget half of it by the time you actually get there in just under 3 years.

im taking medical terminology, its a 1 hr online course at my school. i didnt want to exceed 15 hrs this semester, and i had 14 hrs, so im taking med term.

Medical terminology will not make medical school easier. If only it was the terminology that made medical school harder than undergrad!

Medical Terminology is going to come across as a fluff course. If all you’re doing is taking it so that you make 15 credits instead of 14, I think that’s fine. But don’t think that it’s going to wow adcoms or convince your interviewers of your dedication to physicianhood.

yea i think it def is a fluff course. i just needed 15 credits so i wont go on scholarship probation.

Doed not look too much at all. What is Chem 2? Are you taking 2 years of Chem?

Chem 1 is shorthand for Inorganic Chemistry, also called General Chemistry; Chem 2 is shorthand for Organic Chemistry.
