need advice on freshmen premed courseload

this upcoming semester will be my 2nd semester of pre-med/bio
ive only taken 2 science classes within my courseload: a math class and a bio1 class.
I was thinking about taking chemistry1, bio2, and calculus... maybe along with another elective class...

that would be 12 credits without the elective class, 15 credits with it.

Should I take these classes? in the beginning i thought it was fine but my 2 councilers say that i should not take 2 lab classes in one semester... but im a bio major and i'll have to eventually take this type of courseload. many recomend that i do not take these classes together as a freshmen.

wise advice is appreciated. if anyone can tell me their past experience with a similar courseload, that would also be helpful..

(Btw--i am not interrested in taking these classes to please med school admissions. i feel that i need to take these classes in order to be done with pre-med requirements in the end of my third year.)

That should be a very easy semester. You should be fine; however, it varies for everyone. Some freshmen have what it takes; some don’t. Go off your performance first semester. Really, I think a med school-bound 2nd sem frosh ought to be able to take on 16-18 units and/or get some ECs in place. The latter is more crucial. What your advisor told you about not taking 2 labs in 1 sem is total B.S. Most of your peers will end up taking 3-4 labs simultaneously at some pt in their academic careers. Two labs won’t be difficult in the least. Good luck.

what you are saying makes sense. i figured i’d have to eventually take a heavier courseload than this.
your feedback was helpful. thank you

D2 has taken 21-23 credits/semester since her second semester of her freshman year. (5 courses with 3 labs is a pretty typical semester for her. Was for her older sister too.)

So 12 credits of science w/ labs is eminently do-able.

Both my Ds are science/math majors and as an upperclassmen, they both say there are just gonna semesters when you end up taking nothing but science classes and labs. Just the way it works.
