Would taking General Chemistry 1 over the course of 2 semesters be a bad idea? Thanks!
Can you give more details?
Ex. Why would you choose that instead of one semester? Why do you have to take the class? Will that set your graduation back at all?
Yes, of course! There are two options at my school. One is to divide General Chemistry 1 into two semesters, with the lab being during the second semester of the sequence. The other option is to take General Chemistry 1 with its lab during 1st semester, and take General Chemistry 2 with its lab during the 2nd semester. My advisor recommends the first option… I have not taken Chemistry since my Sophomore year in high school although I am in Calculus now as a senior. I’m doing pretty well! I don’t think splitting the class into two semesters will get me behind. Hopefully that’s enough info for you to give your opinion. Thanks!
During my first year, I also plan on taking Biology with a lab, an English course, Calculus 1 (just to strengthen my what I’ve learned in high school and get acclimated to the math department), and a single credit class for STEM majors. This will be 16 credits total, if choose to go with the first option.
