Hey guys,
I am new here on CC so I am not familiar with the trends but I have a very important question to ask. I moved to the US two years ago from India and shockingly, my current weighted GPA is a 3.6. What I don’t understand is that all the class I took in my freshmen year in India were counted as regular classes, but since we don’t have an AP/PREAP thing in India, most of the classes are harder. If you are from India and you went schooling there then you would know what I am talking about. I don’t know if I am the only one with whom this has happened, but I am shocked to see this. The CBSE system in India is really harder than any AP class I took here. I certainly have some B’s on my transcript for my freshmen year (and a c oops) but they were not counted as AP classes, so you can imagine how bad that is for my GPA. My overall % in my freshmen year in India was an 88, which is really not bad considering the school I went to was in the top 10 schools in Delhi and was incredibly hard. If my classes there were counted as AP, my gpa right now would be WAY higher. Do you think colleges take that into consideration?
Thank you so much for your help
If it’s a known school and your transcript has that info, yes, it will be.
@“Erin’s Dad” Hi thankyou so much for replying! and my transcript does not have any sort of info on it but it does says the name of the school. Also my school is very known as many students get into ivy league universities here
ok im confused cause my neighbor’s nephew moved from india last year and my school gave him credit for AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Phys 1, AP Phys 2, AP Phys C, PreAP Bio, PreAP Chem, PreAP Alg 1, PreAP Geometry, PreAP Alg 2, PreAP Precal, and nothing else. I thought they would give you at least math and science credit for AP/PreAP cause classes for those subjects are substantially harder there.
@marie122 yes one of my friends also received credits for her classes here, I find it weird that my school didn’t give me any credits.
@Ilovenyb talk to your GC and show him the curriculum from your old school. if you’ve covered all the topics for a certain class, they might give you credit.
@Ilovenyb- could you pls let me know how your school calculated your GPA- I also did freshman from India. Can you pls msg me.
I would think that they would look at the schools you attended and notice the classes you took
Talk to your GC and have him/her evaluate the rigor of the classes you took in India; present, side by side, the content of each class you want recognized as Honors/PreAP, and the actual syllabus from such a class at your current school.
CBSE at the ninth/tenth grade is NOT hard. It’s ridiculously easy. Sure, your freshman year might be excused, but you’re gonna have to get someone to evaluate that. When did you start school in the US, as a sophomore or a junior?
