I've heard from my teacher that there are scholarships for doctors who want too become general practitioners or pediatricians since there are shortages of them. Is this true?

There are certain schools that will help pay your tuition if you are going to practice in underserved areas for a certain length of time. (Rural/poorer areas) I’m assuming these are general practitioners and family doctors but I’m not sure. You’d have to check with the med school’s website.

Check out the IHS (Indian Health Service). I’m not sure if it’s just for Natives or not, but they’ll foot the bill for medical school and you pay back with service. I think it’s year for year, but I wouldn’t swear to it.

Something to look at.

I don’t know about scholarships, but there are special primary care loans that you can take if you promise to go into a primary care specialty. These loans have significantly lower interest than other loans you would get, but if you end up going into a non-primary care specialty, the rate gets jacked up quite a bit.
