Hey, so I have a few general questions about college admissions and whatnot. If y'all could help me answer them, that'd be great.

Will colleges tell you the exact reason they rejected you? I've heard that some colleges do..they'll tell you whether it was your GPA, your test scores, your ECs, etc.

If you've got one of those anti-hook ethnicities (white, Asian, etc.) rather than those URM ethnicities that have it made (Native-American, Hispanic, or African-American), is it better to go undeclared?

Should you put a major down when you apply? Does it hurt, help, or not matter?

Much thanks!

I think it’s okay to mention what you are interested in majoring in. Colleges want to get to know you, and they like to see that an applicant has strong interests. At the same time, admissions people know it is likely that you may change your major, and it is fine to be “undeclared”. It is nice if your possible major connects to subjects you’ve studied in high school and/or extracurriculars you’ve been involved in.

I don’t believe they do.

If you’re an ORM, go undeclared only if your last name won’t give away your ethnicity (otherwise there would really be no point).

I’m actually not sure about this. Wondering the same thing, actually.

Guys, check out my blog…azninneverland.blogspot.com about the perils of Affirmative Action.
