How many people get accepted AND ATTEND McGill as Freshmen?
How many of those are international students?
How many are from US high schools?
Overall how many freshmen students live in residence housing (not off campus regular apartment rentals)?
and do freshmen students also live in regular apartments, or all university housing?
which are the "best" residences?

Thanks!

There are about 5000 first year students enrolled each year. About 12% are American, another 12% other international. McGill houses 3000 students downtown and 400 at Mac campus, virtually all are first year students.

Thanks.

Just got off the wait list to McGill - had already provided a deposit to GW University in DC. Now need to decide - Montreal or DC… any thoughts? (an american high school student, but able to get Quebec tuition rates)

go to McGill!! hahah what’s your major?

@rickykur
I faced a somewhat similar situation. I enrolled at Northeastern, right in the heart of Boston, and had to choose–Boston or Montreal. I chose McGill.

So you’re starting first year at McGill? What’s your major? Where are you from that you were considering NE and McGill?

I’m in the faculty of arts and I’m planning on declaring psychology as my major concentration after the first year. I’m from Connecticut, and applied to northeastern as a target. I visited mcgill a while ago and loved it, so I also applied there.

I also have a question about residences…
How long after the reply-by deadline until I know what residence I have been placed in?

Residence hall assignments are on Minerva

So apparently I have been “temporarily assigned” to a residence. What does that mean exactly? Does this mean that my lottery number was pretty big so all places were booked by the time they got to me? Or that I still have a chance at my top two residences (I’ve been assigned to RVC, which was my third choice)? Or what?

@uni2013 yes. I think basically, McGill intentionally overbooks res halls to accommodate for no-shows and cancellations. Most people are given their permanent room assignment before they even arrive in August. If you’re one of the students who doesn’t, however, they will turn your room (in your case, in rvc) from a single into a double until you get a room to live in.

Thanks so much for clearing it up! If I get a room assignment before I arrive, do you know when I should be getting the assignment by? (I’d like to have everything I need before I arrive in Montreal if I can)

@Uni2013 I think it depends on your lottery number and when people cancel. Hopefully you find out soon! Until then, try to learn about RVC. It sounds great and it was actually one of my top three res choices!
