Generic Response? deferred hopeful (:

I emailed my regional director within one hour of decisions on friday and asked what i should do, is there even a really solid chance to compete with RD applicats, etc etc with my deferral and she said not to sweat my whole midyear grade situation, etc. and that she'd love to talk to me personally on the phone about my situation. she told me to send letters to both her and the admissions committee about how penn is still my absolute first choice (i told her that despite my commonapp essay was about how i believed i could feel comfortable in any setting), that after falling in love with penn, I wasn't sure how much I believed myself in that essay anymore, and she said that she could see that in my perserverance and that i should put that into writing and that she would definitely relay that information to the committee and definitely remember this correspondance when they reevaluate my app during RD season...

i dont wanna get my hopes up just to get absolutely crushed again
should i take what she said with a grain of salt? or is this more than just a generic response?

anyone else had this happen to them?

<3sarah

ignore the poor use of parentheses lmao

and im aware that most people hear the same stuff, but do your regional directors want to speak to everyone personally over the phone? i have blair godfrey

Well I emailed mine too, no phone call, but she said the exact same thing: write a letter to show continued interest and email it to her. So I guess it’s kinda like a generic answer but I don’t know how many people get phone calls.

openupsayrah,

I am no expert but I think you should keep trying. It makes sense to me. As a deferred, Penn is already going to give you another look. Why not make it abundantly clear to the school that it’s your first choice? You have nothing to lose. A letter would take only a few minutes. Good luck! I hope you make it.

bump char10

She gave you the best response she could: Other than reminding them (by hand-written letter) of your continued interest, you can’t change your stats much. Focus on keeping your grades high and updating the committee on any recent/upcoming awards and/or accomplishments.

thank you (:
i never would have thought of doing it handwritten, typing seemed more formal
but i think that handwritten would definitely make it more personal. thanks for the tip!

Whoops! I meant typed, but signed by hand.

oh phew!
almost made a big mistake (also it’d look a lot longer than it really was if i wrote it lol)
