Genetics AGR or PCB

I can take either PCB3063 or AGR3303 to satisfy my bio genetics requirement. However, which is better for med school, or easier, etc. Pretty much anything you may know about the two.

Thanks,
OnB

You can take either if your pre-med. I’ve been told that PCB is preferred though, as I hear AGR has a reputation for not being as challenging? Its really up to you, I am pre-dental and I was told they prefer PCB over AGR, I guess because PCB goes into more molecular depth than AGR? I’m not entirely sure, but most people here that took the AGR for the genetics requirement did so because it was supposedly easier, I personally don’t know the difference and PCB isn’t bad at all especially when compared to organic 2 and biochemistry here.

Most take PCB, I personally don’t know anyone who took AGR.

Does anyone have thoughts on PCB3063 with Marta Wayne or William Barbazuk?

Thanks for any info!

Wayne. One of my favorites.

How rigorous is PCB 3063?

I’m currently signed up for Gen Physics II, but have been thinking of dropping in and taking Genetics. Would Calc, Chem, Genetics be more manageable than Calc/Chem/Physics?

Thanks!

Marta Wayne is absolutely fabulous. Take her, you WILL NOT regret it. Her class fills up like crazy, good luck getting a space.

I don’t understand the big deal about how hard is PCB vs AGR. The bottom line is that AGR is an agricultural prefix and the AGR genetics class is an AGRICULTURAL genetics class. PCB3063 is a HUMAN genetics course. So which do YOU think looks better if you are applying to medical school? For what it’s worth, the departments have been aware of this ridiculous skew for a while and have just recently started making AGR a harder course.

here are the grades students made in PCB3063 with Marta Wayne last year:

AGR is also 3 credits and PCB is 4 credits… I know some people I knew had to make a poster for PCB. For the record I took AGR last semester and the focus was not one bit on agricultural genetics. A few things were mentioned related to plants and some examples were given on plants but the prof was well aware that 75% of the class were premed students.

Can only Bio majors take PCB3063?

I’ve been staking out ISIS and when a section finally appeared, It wouldn’t let me register. I had to drop physics to try registering for it too, and when I tried to get Physics back, my section was already taken :(

finishing general chem is a pre-requisite so if you mean you are taking chem I or II this semester then that might be why

Ah, I thought the only pre-req were the Gen Bios
