Genetics, bioinformatics, and comp bio

What are the differences between bioinformatics and computational biology? And I noticed that most ivies dont have genetics as a major, but have computational biology. What is the distinction between the three? And what is best for someone who wants to be a research labrat?

Computational bio and bioinformatics are quite similar. However, I would say the main difference is that computational biology involves more math, statistics, and applying bioinformatics tools to biology. Bioinformatics is more programming based so this would include algorithm design and software engineering. Both bioinformatics and comp bio can be applied to genetics. I would think that a genetics major would be mainly wet lab based versus computer based. Hope this helps!
