Geographic Diversity

Hey guys,

Quick question. Does Yale care much about geographic diversity? Currently, I am not sure if I will apply 2 yale or stanford SCEA. However, I am an unhooked applicant (white and not a legacy at either place). However, I attend a moderately small public school in rural Nebraska. Will this have a notable positive impact on my application to Yale?

It won’t have a notable positive impact. If you are a good applicant, geographical diversity generally will not ever sway the decision one way or another. We would have to get inside the mind of an admissions officer in order to know if it really helps. Just apply, and don’t worry about the small things that may or may not help you. Good luck!

So this is what I’ve heard…
Yale and other top schools are looking for representation from as many states as possible of the U.S. I don’t know how many applicants are going for Yale in Nevada, but since you are far away geographically from Yale, admissions officers may consider admitting you because they want equal representation from all over the U.S.

As Mythbuster2000 says, be a good applicant :)
