Hello,
well first of all i’d like to know if anybody can explain me the main difference between these two majors? I always thought it’s the same thing ?!
My next question :
I want to get a B.S. degree in Geology and after that I’d like get a MS in Hydrogeology (What major would that exactly be?).
I think the research of water resources etc. is gonna be very important and brings a lot of jobs with it right?
Do you guys have any other suggestions to study in this department and that brings a bright future with it?
Some departments call it geology, others call it earth science. Sometimes earth science is a more systems integrated approach (eg, incorporates heavy geographical, meterological, etc into the major) but usually they’re the same.
Hydrogeology or hydrology is usually either a minor or concentration within geology, geography, or civil engineering. Rarely is it it’s own major at the undergraduate level.
From what my hydrology professor has said (he leads a multi million dollar facility, and consults with private firms), GIS, programming, geology, and civil engineering are all solid paths to get into water resource management.
