Geology vs Herpetology

What do you guys think? Herpetology major vs geology major. What do you think about the potential job outlook for each major? Excluding all petroleum, coal, natural gas geology jobs. Do you think that a biology major as specified as herpetology will increase job prospects?

Geology or herpetology major, which would you choose and why?

I would consider double majoring in both since as a petroleum geologist you will frequently be doing field work in areas that are not only very prospective for major oil finds but are also home to many different species of reptiles and amphibians, some of which are still unknown to science. You could make an impact both in Geology and Herpetology.

Herpetology is a subfield of zoology. At the undergrad level, you could major in zoology or in ecology & evolution. Within those majors, you could take a course or two on herpetology.

Some geology major programs offer an option in geobiology or paleobiology, under which you probably could take a course on herpetology as part of your requirements. I’m not sure that it is the best option under this major if youu’re interested in economic geology or petroleum geology.

Majoring in both geolofy + zoology, biology, or ecology & evolution is an option, too, as Lemaitre1 noted.

are there any colleges that actually have a herpetology major?
