<p>what area specifically of Geophysics are you interested in? Chicago has an outstanding Astrophysics program, but virtually no one who specializes in seismology, for instance. [long story short- my son, who transfered there, found that out after the fact- he went back to USC because his interest was specifically in seismology]
And yes, you will have to take a lot of math and Physics.
