Hi, I'm currently working on transferring to 4yr Uni as a Geology Major w/ emphasis in Geophysics. I figured do my BS in Geology, get a certificate in GIS and start working. The likelyhood of me getting my MS after wards is pretty slim as I am already working a full time job (IT industry) and cannot afford to "not work". It seems although it's mandatory for one to possess a MS to work in the petroleum industry, which is not the industry I particularly want to really work in. It would be nice, but it's not the first choice. I enjoy being outdoors and theres nothing better than the fantasy of doing some type of surveying/data collection in the middle of nowhere (preferably in the high mountains). Anyways, I don't know if following my heart and doing Geology is a good idea, knowing that if I don't get the MS it could hurt my chances of getting a decent job out of school. So another major I am thinking about is Mechanical Engineering, and perhaps minoring in Geology or getting the GIS cert. Seems like alot of these Geotechnical companies also hire engineers as well. Any advice? Thank you.
