It should be worth noting that this is USC's fifth gift exceeding $100M... and no other American University has even received four gifts exceeding $100M.

I think once this has been applied, it will be safe to say that USC is undisputably the #1 film school, without any talk of NYU or UCLA (which has always been third).

Don't see that just having more money will DEFINITELY make the school change it's ranking/rating. Folks will always say what they want about ratings & rankings. It's clear that USC has & will continue to be a major film school, no matter what # folks wish to attach to it.

well, rankings are always a shallow way to judge school quality, but money is a huge part of the ranking criteria...

and that said, money does make things better. There were a lot of major improvements done that the engineering school really needed when viterbi gave his $52 million and the difference was really quite noticable (for the better)

our president sample has raised over $4 billion dollars for USC in the past decade and a half. just utterly amazing, really.

its awesome how much school spirit SC and it shows in our alumni giving.

"Spielberg applied for admission to the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television three separate times, and the prominent school later awarded Spielberg an honorary degree in 1994. Two years later, Spielberg became a Trustee of the University and has since tirelessly devoted himself to supporting USC."

Bingo. Even after $35 million, Marshall Business School still carries a rather mediocre reputation per dollar, and the school's 2.85 GPA curve isn't helping. Although the school's facilities are damn nice.

he isn't a bruin, he's from that other school with no football team this year.

Yeah...after the Tennessee disaster, I'm looking forward to next season...

USC usually gets unfairly shafted in the rankings, so it's good that it's offset somewhat by the giant barrels of cash the school rakes in.

And, at least we get to look forward to good football this year. And next year. And so on ad infinium. You'll get to see some this season, too...

It wont last forever...enjoy it while you can. : )

Ha, that's true. But the amount of money he's made off of countless Star Wars licensing deals means he's a shrewd businessman. Perhaps a better businessman than a filmmaker.

Too bad he didn't give $175 to Marshall. :(

agreed. The new Marshall Strategic Plan looks like it'll help alot, but the school is still looking for a big donor to make the naming contribution on the new building.
