My son has been accepted for fall 2017. He would be an OOS student. Is GMU still considered a commuter school? We want him to have well rounded great college experience. Would appreciate feedback! We have visited the campus but still undecided.
There are commuter students but according to the GMU website more than 75% of freshman live on campus.
Some commute because they are also doing internships while attending school since we are so close to so many employment opportunities. It is also very easy to go off campus as a resident since GMU has shuttles and a bus system that can take you to different areas of Fairfax as well as the metro station that leads into DC and MD.
What is your son interested in studying?
His interest is in kinesiology. Also trying decide if goIng to an OOS university is worth the cost.
Will he need to go to graduate school with his degree? Does he have interest in settling in the area after graduation? According to the GMU website he will have a chance to complete three internships in professional settings.(Approximately 700 hours) It seems at least one of them is paid or voluntary. Looks like a good program. The SMART lab looks impressive.
GMU is a good place to study considering out of state tuition, it is the biggest research university in VA (according to their website and usnews.com) so it is a great benefit for him and his interests. George Mason is around some of the greatest places like D.C. and Maryland for internships and full round experience.
