Commuter School Image and OOS

I'm hearing a lot of mixed reviews as to GMU's commuter school image. It appears the school is on the verge of making a transformation, but is it completely there yet? Has GMU broken through this commuter image? Is there enough to do on campus? Would an out-of-state student feel comfortable? Is there much school spirit? Is it a fun place to be?

I have no personal experience, but I have alot of friends that go GMU. Here is the outline:

It has a large commuter population, but it also has a very large non-commuter population. When you look at it compared to a school like JMU, they have almost identical full time - living on campus students. You should consider anyone that commutes a “bonus” student, and give you just one more person to interact with.

I hear you should join a frat/sorority if you want to enjoy the party life; there are plenty of parties if your go greek. Otherwise you better enjoy clubs, sports and D.C. I personally want a mix of both, so look into greek life.

Keep in mind GMU seems to keep progressing every year with new construction of dorms (which allows them to accept more on-campus students).
