George Mason's Honors College or UMD????

Which college do you think will provide the best education; George Mason’s Honors College or UMD??? I have visited both schools and I’ve talked to both family and guidance counselors and they all say go to the one you like best, but I can’t decide!

What are you majoring in and in which state do you reside? Is Cost of Attendance a factor in your decision?

I plan to go somewhere in the field of law and GM and UMD both cost about the same for me

What major would you choose ?
If political science or international relations I’d recommend gmu honors. If stem, umd.
Have you visited, attended a class or two, went to an admitted students overnight ?

We are VA residents so GMU was much cheaper than out of state for UMCP. Anyway GMU honors would give you priority registration for your classes every semester. Also the courthouse and many law offices are in the surrounding areas for internships.

George Mason has a 3+3 year law degree. Does UMD?

I would think that would be attractive.

Law isn’t worth it unless the law school is ranked in the top14 (20at most) because of the glut of law school graduates and the shortage of jobs. So the gmu offer is pointless. Better spend 4 years, get a great GPA, prep for LSAT, and aim for one of those top law schools.

I would still recommend GMU for undergrad because of its location. (right next to the courthouse and all these law offices and a metro ride to DC where there would be more internship opportunities)

^Oh, I agree. I think GMU Honors would be perfect for someone wishing to go to law school. They have tons of majors, even “Philosophy for law school” (not the real name of the major).

One thing about Honors that is really helpful in priority registration. When attending a big public university this reduces the stress of getting into classes which are prerequisites for your upper level classes. The advisors really try to help the students. (big deal if you want to graduate in four years)
