Hi guys! I will be a junior in the fall and I would like to apply to the SFS.

Georgetown said that it strongly recommends that applicants submit 3 subject tests. I'm going to take Literature and US history next June. I know that it would be wise to take a language subject test, but because, at my school, freshmen aren't allowed to take Spanish, I've only had one year of a foreign language and I don't think I would do well on the test. I could take biology, but I took it last year, so I don't know if I would remember everything I learned

I desperately need 2 more years of Spanish, but my teacher won't let me do an independent study because there's no way I can work it into my schedule. My counselor is trying to find a more affordable online program.

Would Georgetown care if I submitted only 2 subject tests? Two is better than none.

You’re right: two is better than none (or one).

I submitted two tests, because I only took two: Bio M and Math II. My scores were 690 and 670, respectively, and I took them in October of my senior year. Needless to say, those scores are terrible or decent at best for a school like Georgetown. But I was accepted and will be attending this fall.

You said that you’re worried you might not do well at biology? I took it as a sophomore, just a regular class, and I still scored an okay score as a senior. I did study a lot for maybe a month or so, but it ended up not being that bad.

Honestly though, I think 2 good scores would be fine. From my experience, the SAT Subjects don’t matter that much to the admissions staff. However, it could be different for you if you have other low points in your application. Let me know if you have any questions!

First of all, thank you so much for replying! Congratulations on getting in!

I think my GPA is good (3.9 unweighted and 4.4ish weighted), but I’m worried about my ACT/SAT test scores. My counselor said that I have to take the ACT, even though I think I would do better on the SAT. So, I’m hoping for a 2050 or a 30.

Okay, so I could take Biology.

I can confirm that Georgetown doesn’t put too much emphasis on subject tests, so don’t worry, two should be fine!:)

Ksanyee: Thanks! That’s a huge relief.

thanks for this! im glad, just in case oct. SAT doesn’t go as well as im hoping, i already have two SAT IIs under my belt.

I don’t think I’m going to be able to take Spanish 2 online because my counselor hasn’t gotten back with me. She said she would see what she could find out. I emailed her last week, but she never replied.

It’s really frustrating.

College Board recommends two years of Spanish, but you’ll need more than that to get a competitive score on the Spanish subject test. Even though you haven’t taken biology in a while, I would take that instead for a few reasons:

The curve is much less harsh. Sooo many native speakers for Spanish.

There is less material to learn.

The prep books are generally better. Spanish subject test books SUCK.

Cellist: Thanks! I’ll definitely do that!

I cannot tell you how relieved I am to hear about someone getting in with 2 Sat IIs! I also am hoping just to send Lit and US History and was getting quite worried.
