Georgetown and Veterans

Hello everyone,

Can anyone tell me how military friendly Georgetown is (at least compared to most schools)? I am currently an active duty soldier and I am getting out of the Army in February (honorable discharge) and Georgetown is one of the schools I am going to apply to. I have already submitted Part I of the application.

Because of its proximity to the capital I thought maybe being a Vet might be an advantage. There is also some info on their website for veterans which makes me think that maybe they are looking to attract veterans but does anyone know if being a Vet gives one an advantage or if your chances are the same as anyone else?

I am applying as a transfer student. I am finishing up my Associates Degree right now with a GPA of 3.97 but its at a community college. Since options for school and EC's are limited while on active duty I have been looking for a good school that might cut vets some slack.

My recommendations:

Call the admissions office and ask to speak to the admissions officer on duty about your situation as a veteran/transfer. They can shine some light on the admissions side of things.

Reach out to the GUSVA folks: [Veteran Resources: Student Veteran Groups - Georgetown University](http://www.georgetown.edu/student-veteran-groups.html) They can tell you about the dynamic on campus and share their experiences. Great group of folks, in my experience.

That is a good idea. I will give them a call…

For what its worth, my last boss at Georgetown was a retired Green Beret O-6 who is now enrolled in the DLS program. So if you do end up at Georgetown, you’ll have at least one more SpecOps veteran to commiserate with :)

Georgetown is very Vet friendly.

If by Vet friendly you’re referring to admissions, your admissions chances are just like everyone else: it depends on your application and how your essays convey what you bring to the student body.

For what it’s worth, I was an Air Force vet GU student and while I was there, I knew of a Marine and Army vet. The Marine was a Platoon Sergeant during the initial phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Soldier was an Interrogator at Abhu Ghraib.

If by Vet friendly you’re referring to the number of Vets or active duty students, there are a good number of them: the majority if not all of active duty personnel are at the graduate level.
