I know the 4 schools (Georgetown, Carnegie Mellon, Claremont Mckenna and Boston College) are very different in terms of environment/location, but I’m having a hard time picking my last two colleges.
I am interested in psychology/biology. Which school is good for pre-health (pre-veterinary specifically)? I will doing RD.
I’m leaning towards Georgetown and Boston College at the moment.
In terms of campus culture/environment, I heard Claremont Mckenna is a huge party school. I want to go to a school with parties, but I don’t want it to be a huge factor.
In terms of locations, I think I prefer Boston and California. Unfortunately, I’ve never visited any of the schools.
All very competitive schools. Reaches for almost everyone. Make sure you have some matches and safeties in the mix.
I’m a New Yorker who went to BC. Love love love Boston. It is one of the best college towns with so many colleges in the immediate and surrounding areas. BC is outside of Boston so it is a beautiful traditional campus (not urban at all) but an easy T (train) ride into the city. They give very very few merit scholarships and you need to apply EA to be considered. Have heard they are better with need based financial aid. My son was accepted last year but did not receive ANY money so had to pass.
Of the Claremonts, Pitzer or Pomona might make the most sense for your academic interests.
For pre-vet, animal handling experience is crucial, and successful applicants to vet school have several hundred hours of experience. All four colleges will have opportunities to work with small animals (cats, dogs, birds, etc.) through local vet clinics, but options for large animal experience will be more limited.
Since none of the four have campus farms, vet schools, or animal science programs, you’ll have to look off campus for large animal handling experience. BC, Georgetown, and Pittsburgh have zoos nearby, so you may want to look into how difficult it is to get a volunteer position. For BC, there’s also the New England Aquarium.
