Georgetown Chances (please help)

I applied to Georgetown EA and just want another perspective.I know I am by no means the strongest candidate but I hope my extracurriculars and interest will slightly help.

Georgetown EA

Essays - 8/9, emphasized my unique family situation and how its shaped me to be independent yet motivated, how track allowed me to become a leader due to qualifying for Nationals within 2 months of starting, and my plans to become a doctor and participate in research to help those internationally in failing health care systems.

Recommendations - 8,9,10 (counselor really knew me well)

This is my first post so I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I just wanted a general idea of my chances. My other choices include Emory and UMD and I am talking to the Emory coach now but still feel Georgetown would give me great opportunities in not only Biology but Global Health. Thanks to anyone willing to read!!!

Unless you are a recruited athlete or have some other hook, I think your odds are long at both Georgetown and Emory. A 33 ACT might change that.

^ Agreed. I am no expert on swimming (and it may be a bit late if you are a senior), but can you contact an academically strong Division III school (say, Wesleyan) and see if you can make their swim team. Back in my day, one of my friends was able to swim for Wesleyan when he was probably academically borderline for the school.

My D applied to Gtown last year so I followed the results threads on CC pretty religiously. Lots of kids with very high stats were deferred and then wait listed (like my D), and there were kids with lower numbers who got in. Don’t get your hopes up because those ECs and interest don’t seem too unusual, and girls outnumber boys in the applicant pool. If your school uses Naviance check on the past applicants and their results.

@oregon2016 Thanks for the advice. Where did she end up?

^ Great choice. Alma mater of our next President!

Georgetown is more stringent at EA vs RD, so you are likely to get deferred. If you hit a 32-33 on the ACT you have a shot at RD, but still the odds are against you. Have you contacted the coach? May be too late for that, but worth a try
