Georgetown Chances?

Hi, I'm a junior this year in high school and was wondering at my chances for Georgetown. I'm also interested in Columbia, Tufts, and Cambridge/Oxford (haven't decided yet). I'm thinking of going into international affairs/political science, and if I decide to go to Georgetown I will be applying to the School of Foreign Service, which I know is notoriously competitive. I am also thinking of minoring in Persian or Arabic, really love languages!

GPA: 4.2 weighted, 3.65 unweighted

SAT: still haven't taken yet, but I scored 2150 on my PSAT

I know my GPA is slightly low... hoping to bring them up with straight A's across the board this year. :)

Courses (Non-AP) already taken: honors world history, honors us history I (my school breaks US history into 2 years: sophomore year honors, junior year AP), honors english (freshman & sophomore year), honors algebra II, precalc, honors art history, honors biology, honors chemistry

Courses (AP) already taken: AP US comparative government & politics (score: 5)

Courses (Non-AP) to take/taking this year: physics, philosophy, political science

Courses (AP) to take/taking this year: AP statistics, AP US History, AP US Government & Politics, AP English Language & Composition, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Human Demography, AP Calculus AB, AP Psychology, AP Macro/Micro Economics, AP French.. hopefully I'll get mostly 5's and a few 4's!

SAT II's: Planning on taking them this May/June, after my SAT, and planning on taking World History, US history, Chinese, and French

My Extracurriculars:

I am varsity swimming captain of my high school.

Thank you for any help/pointers you could possibly give!

Another PoliSc/International Studies student! Huzzah!

First: Congrats on that PSAT Score! It’s not every day you see someone score 9x higher than possible ;)

Georgetown seems pretty match for you.
Columbia low reach/reach.
Tufts high match/low reach.

As for the english schools, I went through the same phase as you when I was a junior. I wanted to study international studies so I looked into places like Glasgow and whatnot. Really, though, you’re a lot better off going to a school in the states and doing some studying abroad. Have you considered schools like WM and GW, which are both great PoliSc/International Studies schools?

That overseas volunteering is an incredible EC. It puts you up a lot higher in the midst of that 3.65 UW GPA.

All in all, nice stats. Best of luck man.

Go look for matches/safeties; Georgetown, Tufts, Columbia and Oxbridge are all reaches.

None of us can make a guess for Oxbridge unless you have testing scores in. They place emphasis on SAT/ACT (Above 2300/33 Recommended) and SATII (Above 750 Recommended). You also need 3 AP tests already under your wing with 5’s on all three. As for the others: Georgetown SFS Reach, Columbia Reach, Tufts Match

Thank you everybody! This was really helpful :)

Georgetown: high match/low reach
Columbia: reach
Tufts: low reach

Can’t comment on the UK schools. Best of luck!

Gtown - low reach

Your GPA is a little low but if you can get at least a 2200 on the SAT you should have a shot.
