Georgetown Class of 2025 Regular Decision

@zyllll52110

My kid went creative. Your resume and your application already lists your achievements and clubs- so he put stuff that is less academic and more “personality” here. Like how he loves to eat kind of stuff.

Hey there! Georgetown is also my dream school and I’m applying to the college. I’m listing some fun (and less academic) things about myself for that section to get creative!!

Hey everyone! Do you know if the three subject test “recommendation” (basically requirement) still applies? Can I submit AP tests instead? Thanks!

Hi, I’m also planning to apply to Georgetown and here’s what they said about the Subject tests on their website

@TGallaway123 you could probably get in with that GPA, especially if there is an upward trend in it, but as you mentioned Georgetown considers a lot more than just GPA and how many APs you took so it is really hard to say how much of a chance you have without having the full picture

re: undergrad and law school at georgetown, they have a ‘guaranteed admissions’ program where eligible Georgetown juniors can commit to georgetown law and bypass a lot of regular application requirements

@TGallaway123 and @somewhere2022 just to be clear, and because this whole GPA thing is confusing to me, what is a 3.81? At my school a 4.0 is a 100 average and a 3.5 is a 90. How does that translate? Also, do y’all know if Georgetown recalculates our GPA’s or leave it as is?

Georgetown probably does some recalculation of GPAs although that is not publicly known. They might exclude freshman year grades from their version, some colleges that publish their GPA formula do that. I think perhaps the most common meaning of a 3.81 in a high school context would be 81% of grades in the A range (90-100%) and 19% of grades in the B range, but different high schools probably have different systems.

For Georgetown grades themselves, A=4.0, A-=3.66, B+=3.33, B=3.0 and so on, then those grades are averaged based on the number of credits a class is worth. However, the percentage range necessary to earn a particular letter grade can vary widely. An 80% might be an A in some curved Econ classes for example, but a B- in other classes.

Hi! Does anyone know if lower end SAT scores (for Georgetown at least) will count against me? I’ve been getting perfect sections on all my practice tests lately but all my test dates keep getting canceled.

Yeah, of course they could count against you, in the way that any weakness on your application could. That doesn’t mean, however, that you shouldn’t still apply if your application is otherwise decent to good, and hopefully due to the testing weirdness this year scores will matter a little less than usual.

Hello, have all REA applicants received their interview information or completed their interviews by now? I submitted Part 1 of the Georgetown Application in mid-August, so I was wondering if it was just me who still hasn’t received information or if there were other people too.

I sumbitted both parts and have not heard anything yet. It’s still too early to stress though

The interviews are handled by local committees, so sometimes there may be a longer wait depending on where you live. I wouldn’t worry until around the actual application deadline

does anyone know with the sfs essay if we should use research and have a works cited page? Or are we supposed to write it with knowledge that we already have?

@zoewiebe current SFS student here – formal citations aren’t necessary but there should definitely be research involved. You can kind of informally cite (According to a State Dept report…) but they do want to see that you’ve done your research, especially for your proposed solutions

Anyone have their test scores sent but GU portal still shows them as missing? My kid ordered his scores sent there in August after the JUly test released and it is still not updated in the portal. He sent Admissions an email but hasnt heard back :frowning:

Hey all! Q: applied EA. Had a small but (maybe?) significant addition to my resume last week. Wondering if it’s possible to add to application - or worth it?

[President of NEHS]

You can always email the admissions office with the update, and I can’t imagine doing so would hurt .

Current Georgetown SFS student here! I’ve seen a couple questions on SAT subject tests so I thought I’d share a bit from my experience. I did not send any subject test scores to Georgetown, although I did have 10 AP tests (5 scores were sent after being admitted because they were from my senior year). In other words, they truly are easing up on the subject test requirement and if you can display academic success in other ways for subjects related to your possible major (or just what you want to study), you should be fine. Considering that I was fine and my application cycle was before covid disrupted testing, you all should be more than fine. Not submitting subject tests will not be the reason you don’t get in if you don’t get in, so don’t sweat them too much.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message me! I’m sure the application process is especially stressful with you all considering the current conditions and I am more than happy to help!
