Georgetown College or School of Foreign Service?

I am unable to decide to which one I want to apply to. What is the best school if I plan to major in International Relations or Political Science? Can anyone give me a general description for each school?

You can’t major in international relations or political science. However, the government major in Georgetown College encompasses both of those. I am planning to study government, and I am applying to the college. International Relations and Political Theory, I believe, are branches of the government major, but you can not specialize (undergraduate, at least) in any one, since Georgetown believes they are tightly related.

If you know already that you want to study International Relations, SFS is where you should be.

I am a current student in the SFS.

Georgetown SFS: International Affairs

Majors include International History, International Politics, Culture and Politics, International Political Economy and others.
Certificate programs in regional studies, women studies, etc.
Need to pass language proficiency test to graduate

The SFS is well known and very academically rigorous. It is very focused on international affairs from the first day of your freshman year. The core curriculum is quite narrow in some ways, so you need to be quite sure that you truly want to study international affairs. You take Government, History, Theology, Economics etc. courses.

Georgetown College: Government

Hopefully some one else can tell you more about Gov at Georgetown, but from what I understand your major requirements are mostly only Gov classes. It is not as interdisciplinary. However in the college, you have more freedom with your core curriculum. Science and math classes needed (none in the SFS core).

Georgetown has a great reputation, whether you are in the college or the SFS. But I would say that the SFS name does carry a certain weight depending on what you want to go into.

Thank you so much, I found this very useful!
