My son is in the middle of recruiting for diving and is interested in Georgetown academically. They have a new coach that has not fully started communicating yet. Does anyone know if Georgetown has any athletic funding for swimming and diving or is it like the Ivy schools with needs based funding for athletics only
Call and ask.
I saw that. It seems like they do not have pure NCAA athletic money but give money based on circumstances. And they prioritize towards needs. We will not have needs based funding. The tuition is pretty steep if there is no assistance. Also diving is not usually the “particular intercollegiate sport”.
@obriele1 Georgetown gives athletic money in some sports, non means-tested. Unlike Ivies. I don’t know about diving though.
I may have some information that could help. Can I send you a private message?
No pure athletic money for swimming at Gtown…not sure if this is also true for diving.
I’m curious as well as this is a potential target school for my D20. Does Georgetown only provide need based aid? @jmtabb I would love more info too!
@MAandMEmom - sent PM, but just realized that you’ve mentioned you have a daughter. The number is slightly different, but the result is pretty much the same. I’m sitting at a swim meet now but will look up the numbers for the women’s team this afternoon.
A lot to learn about athletic funding, merit funding vs needs based funding. I have a son so numbers are sometimes a bit different but willing to share what I have learned. My son has spoken with a lot of D1 coaches and we have been trying to track what he has learned.
Georgetown definitely has athletic scholarships. But they have them in a limited number of sports. Basketball, lacrosse and track, for sure. I’m not sure which others. If the team went to the NCAAs, they most likely have scholarships.
Georgetown swim and dive coach confirmed to my daughter last week that he has no scholarship money. I assume that’s for diving also.
