Georgetown EA chances?

Hi, please let me know what you think and if there’s anything I can do to improve my chances (though I’m a senior now so I’m aware there’s barely any time.) Thank you so much and good luck everyone!

(I posted this already for Cornell ED but I donʻt think I have any chance of getting in :frowning: so Iʻm highly considering applying to Georgetown EA, which is a better fit for my major and where I think Iʻd have more of a chance probably)

Intended college: SFS

Demographics:
Gender: Female
Nationality: US (Hawaii)
Ethnicity: Asian (Chinese & Japanese), Native Hawaiian
-I can speak English and Mandarin fluently, and Japanese quite well. I also took some Hawaiian classes but not anything too intensive
Income: 150,000 ish? (I’m going to apply for aid though since my brother is also in school)

Academics:
GPA: 3.7 (UW) -low-ish GPA 9th grade bc of prolonged illness specified in counselor’s LOR, my grades 10-12th grade are all solid
SAT: N/A
ACT: 34 (35 in everything except for math- 31); one sitting
AP: Japanese, Gov, both this year (school only allows sophomores to take 1 AP class which I didn’t take, and I was abroad my junior year)
IB: school doesn’t offer
-taking an online class from Stanford, expected to finish with certificate before deadline
Senior course load: pretty easy tbh since Iʻm working a lot

Work experience:
-(Unpaid) data entry work at a museum (10)
-Hostess at a restaurant, approx 30~ hours/week (12) July 2019-present

-Co-founder of Japanese club (10, 12)
-It’s Academic (a local trivia show) team (10)
-Academic WorldQuest team (12)

LORs: (waived FERPA for all)
Teacher 1: My AP Gov teacher, has a PhD, well respected in academic community. I have him also for Honors Hawaiian history, doing very well in both classes. We’re not super close but we have a good academic relationship. Lots of experience writing LORs.
Teacher 2: My English teacher. Not very close but Iʻm doing well in his class.
(note: I can only use senior year teachers since my junior year teachers can’t speak/write in English very well)
Counselor: College counselor that I’m pretty close to, hopefully it brings something new to the table for me.

SFS is the most competitive school at GT, but you seem to be a match for GT. Unlike a lot of admits, you have done a lot of activities in IR, which helps a lot. You also come from an unrepresented state which helps. The fact that your counselor specified the problem with your illness should make up for it. I’d say you have a good chance at GT.

I don’t think you’re allowed to apply to Georgetown EA if you’ve done ED to Cornell. Georgetown’s EA is “restrictive,” preventing the applicants from applying ED to any other college. Sorry about that…

As @Slytherin21 says you are not allowed to apply to both ED to Cornell AND REA to Georgetown. You may have figured this out by now but if you did not you need to change one of your applications to Regular Decision immediately as both schools will be releasing their decisions very soon. Not only is it the ethical thing to do, but if either school sees that you violated its policy they can rescind your offer. Based on the details of your post, they will be able to most likely figure out which is your application. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. Good luck!

To add to above, some top schools like the ivy league will share with other schools who applied ED or REA so they can automatically reject anyone who applied ED or REA to 2 different schools. It’s considered highly unethical to apply to more than one school restrictive. So change your application asap if you can.

@collegemomjam @Slytherin21 @izrk02 Sorry, I should’ve clarified at the time that I was considering between applying to Cornell ED OR Georgetown ED. I wasn’t planning on doing both.

It’s been a while but I decided not to apply to Cornell at all (I reevaluated the reasons why I wanted to apply in the first place and realized they were the wrong reasons). I applied to Georgetown EA and a few other schools RD, and will probably be attending UPenn next fall!

Thank you all for taking the time to give me (and others on cc) so much useful advice throughout this very stressful process. I know you guys are all strangers so I’m sorry if this is weird but I’m really grateful for all the help! Best wishes!
