Georgetown: Pros and Cons

At least three Pros. At least three Cons. Bullet list, preferrably. Oftentimes on these forums, I feel like there's too much emphasis or one or the other.

pros:
alum network is strong
good balance of academics and socializing
great reputation (image)

cons:
high cost of college
high cost of surrounding entertainment/food.
some parts are a bit old (unless you like it, which makes this a pro)

Pros

 • Can’t get a better environment for your money’s worth (WASHINGTON? internships, Obama, need I say more?)
 • SFS is very unique!!
 • The basketball team is amazing

Cons

 • That said, it being Washington, there’s a higher chance of bomb threats, etc.
 • Crappy library and other poor facilities
 • There’s always the slummy side of Washington

*Washington DC offers opportunities that no other city in the country can offer
*Basketball games are fun, whether the team wins or not
*Georgetown on the resume looks amazing

*No metro nearby, and a car in DC is a pain
*DC is not the greatest city to live in(high cost of living, high aids/drugs/crime rates across racial, gender, financial lines)
*Not very flexible scheduling

How would accepted/currently attending/graduates rate Georgetown’s financial aid? I have been waitlisted and am wondering whether or not I should do whatever I can to get off of it (knowing that the rate is much less than even one percent).

Pros:
International Focus Prepares Students for a Globalized society
No Greek System leads to diverse social options
Students can cross register for classes across the University (SFS, COL, MSB)

Cons:
Demand to see big name speakers is too large, some times one can’t get in
Low Endowment contributes to lower UNSNWR ranking
A bit too pre-professional
