Georgetown ROTC?

Does anyone do ROTC at Georgetown? If so, could you please tell me a little about the ROTC program at G-Town? Physical training, the quality of your teachers, leadership lab, the level of camaraderie, etc.

GU’s program has been very good at securing scholarships for its cadets and preparing them for commissioning. A lot of GU cadets supposedly get their branch of choice (MI, IN, SC, etc.) and service (AD/AR/NG). I can’t speak for quality of teachers or the leadership lab but I’d assume that they’re both high.

If ROTC PT is like the rest of the army’s, it’s not that difficult. Waking up was my biggest problem, but eventually the 1 hour PT-routine will become robotic where you don’t even have to consciously think about what you’re doing.

Camaraderie, I don’t know how it is in ROTC, but anyone who says you’ll become best buds with all of your fellow cadets is probably lying. You’ll meet your fair share of scumbags, but you’ll also meet some great people who you might end up being best friends with.

Try it out, it’s a very interesting experience that, unfortunately, most students in top US universities don’t participate in.

Serenen,

I was a cadet in Georgetown’s Army ROTC battalion the last 2 years (but I attended George Washington U). I don’t really have much to add to what NUP said, but it was a good experience and if you’re seriously thinking about a career as an Army officer I’d recommend it. PM me if you have any specific questions.
