@“WVOR357$” If you have taken SAT subject tests then they will want those, and they will get SAT scores with those, if I am not mistaken. Otherwise, I believe their policy mandates that applicants send all past test scores.
For those who have been accepted, are you emailing your interviewer? I’m still waiting on another school and don’t want to make a final call to attend Georgetown yet, but I would like to thank my interviewer and let her know.
Y’all’st’dv’e!! I just got accepted! I applied for the Georgetown College!
Objective:
SAT I: 1370 (English: 680 Math: 690) (Weakest)
SAT II: None
GPA: 4.0 (unweighted) 4.111/4 (weighted)
Rank: 1/460 (weighted)
AP: US Gov and Pol (5) European History (4) Calc AB (3)
Awards: AP Scholar, State Violin Solo Conpetition Finalist, State Small Ensemvle Conpetition Champion
Subjective:
Extra-curriculars: I play the violin, so I included 5 ensembles that I’ve been a member of (concert master of 3 of them), I am also the president of my school’s chapter of National Honors Society. I participated in our science bowl team. I had a few other things, but I think what helped me stick out from the rest was emphasizing my activities that had to with violin. I didn’t want to show that I was spread too thin to actually grow a passion for anything.
Work: I’ve worked at Dairy Queen since I was a sophomore.
Summer Activities: I volunteered at a sleep-away summer camp. In total, it was about 300 hours of community service.
Essays:
Shirt Essay (7.5)
- I really milked my passion for playing the violin here and described what ensembles I spent the most time with. I also emphasized the relationships I made within them as well.
Personal Essay: (10) - I became extremely vulnerable in this one. It was about how I grew up with anti-lgbt sentiments in my household as I began to realize that I was gay myself.
Why Georgetown: (10) - Here I talked about my ethnic background (mixed white/Hispanic) and how I would like to change the world for others like me who don’t have access to representation.
Recommendations:
(10) - I had my 11th grade English teacher write this for me. We’re very close and I’m sure she wrote wells out me.
(?) - I had my 11th grade science teacher write for me. I haven’t seen it, but I’m sure he wrote well.
Other:
Financial Aid: Applied
Intended Major: Government
State: Oregon
School: Public
Ethnicity: Mixed - White (Europe/Mid East) and Hispanic (Europe/Southwest Native American)
Gender: Male
Income: exactly $100k
Reflection:
- I don’t have time to finish because I have a gig to perform at. What I also did that I haven’t seen anyone else do was send in an arts supplement. I sent in a recording of me playing Chaconne in G Minor by Tomaso Vitali for the violin.
I don’t know if that helped at all, but I think it did something.
I forgot to mention other schools that I’ve applied to.
- Willamette University (accepted)
- Seattle Pacific University (accepted)
- University of San Francisco (accepted)
- Seattle University (applied)
- University of the Puget Sound (applied)
- Butler University (applied)
- Chemeketa Community College (accepted)
@missunitedkates I went ahead and let my interviewer know!
Any of you got in with a GPA less than 3.7 UW? I’m applying RD and wondering if I have any chance.
(double posted somehow, sorry bout that)
Accepted in WA!!!
@ttp776 Yes, interviewers have the ability to find out the admissions status of their interviewees if they so choose.
Having said that… please don’t ask your interviewer for your admissions status! That is definitely not their role!
Well, uh, my post got deleted because you’re apparently not allowed to post the contents of emails verbatim, but The Hoya went ahead and wrote up pretty much the entire contents of the email here anyway: http://www.thehoya.com/class-2022-early-action-applications-hit-record-high/
Did any of the accepted applicants get confirmed to join the Facebook page? I’m waiting
This may be the wrong place to ask cause I’m applying RD, but any tips for the alumni interview? I have mine coming up in two weeks or so.
@DontNope Even though I had above that, other students at my school have been accepted with GPAs similar to that! One person wasn’t a legacy or athlete, but I guess the admission committee was in their corner. It never hurts to apply - that way you won’t have any regrets no matter what!
@“WVOR357$” at least in my experience, my interviewer loved that I came prepared with questions! However, don’t ask questions that can be found online- ask questions like “what was your favorite club you were involved in?”
My interviewer was somewhat emotionally sterile. Couldnt get a reaction out of him, even when he was talking about his own experience. Worse, he had never interned nor participated much in clubs. Yet he is some lawyer in NYC now. Idk, but Im really worried I did poorly subjective to him.
Hey does anyone know who is the regional admissions rep for Tampa? Or knows of a list of the admissions reps by regions? I can’t find one anywhere
i dont have a like @tborucke but if you call the Undergraduate Admissions office they can tell you who your rep is.
Quick question to everyone…I decided to apply to some new schools today with Jan 1 deadlines. I already submitted the app but then I realized I haven’t sent ACT scores. I just sent them but was it too late? I’m worried the scores won’t get there by Jan 1 so they won’t accept me.
@canigetahoyaa There’s a chance they’ll get there on time, but even if the don’t, that’s not going to make your break you. They probably haven’t even looked at your application.
My friend applied ED to Duke and they didn’t get her scores until after they read her application (I guess she sent them pretty late). They literally hadn’t seen her test scores and they deferred her…they didn’t even reject her. Albeit, she’s really intelligent and is a GREAT applicant, but still.
@“WVOR357$” What your interview is like is really going to depend on who your interviewer is and what their Georgetown experience was like. When I was prepping for my interview I did a lot of research to see what other people had said was asked at theirs, so I’ll attach that for you. Know Georgetown inside and out and refer to it in conversation whenever you can - obviously not all the time but the answers you give should all relate to the picture you’re trying to paint of yourself. Know your intended major, relate your activities to those offered at Georgetown, and when your interviewer asks if you have any questions (because they will) have a bank of 5-10 ready to go. Ask about their Georgetown experience, their major, EC’s, study abroad, favorite and least favorite, what they wish they’d done, why they’re proud to be a Georgetown alum. You’re marketing yourself, so toot your dang horn as much as you can. Sit up straight, speak with confidence, be upbeat, don’t let the stress overtake you, and remember that it’s okay to pause and think before you reply. The interview is just a conversation to get to know you as a person and gauge your interest level in Georgetown. Prep well before and you’ll do fantastic.
- Tell me about yourself. (They'll most likely start with this one)
- Where did you grow up? Tell me about your parents and siblings.
- Tell me about your college search? What kinds of schools are you looking at? How are you deciding where to look?
- Tell me about your current school. What do you like about it?
- Tell me about your favorite subjects. What subjects do you hope to pursue in college? What do you want to major in? (explain why, connect with who you are and who you want to be in the future, what drives you to learn)
- Tell me about your favorite extracurricular activity. Why is it your favorite? How did you become involved? What is your time commitment? Leadership positions held? What activities would you like to continue in college? Any new ones? (be prepared to go deep into this one if they want more specifics, especially if you have a leadership position)
- Talk about the hardest thing you’ve ever faced and what you learned from it.
- What is your greatest weakness? (I doubt they'll outright ask this, but good to be prepared)
- Why Georgetown? (what excites you, how a program aligns with your interests, which school applying to, big picture plan, what directs you towards a certain school (small student body, specific locale) what factors made you choose Georgetown, want to see how you would acclimate to Georgetown community)
- What do you have to offer the Georgetown community? Why would you fit in? Why should we accept you over other students? (individual experiences have shaped you into who you are)
- Do you have any questions for me? (testing to see the quality and thoughtfulness of questions to measure interest in Georgetown and the likelihood that you would accept to attend)
Wow! Thank you for the helpful information! I will be sure to keep these things in mind! @plsletmein22
