it’s ok hahha
Wow that is wild. They usually accept 200-300 students so I wondered what happened this year?? I almost thought they’d have more spots because of people taking gap years.
Over the past year, I’ve been considering two potential outcomes to the increase in gap year student and this has been my thought process:
- A more negative POV for a transfer applicant: An increase in gap year requests would lead to an increase in waitlist acceptances last year, so the class might not have as many open seats as we may have assumed.
- Positive POV: Gap year = more transfers accepted. But, with all the trouble that COVID has caused, it should also represent the fact that more people will apply for transfer and will likely be more qualified with the altered application requirements.
Obviously, I hope the second one is true as a transfer applicant who has applied to quite a few school. Please let me know what you guys think about this!
Did you have to provide proof that you needed an early read?
Yes I sent in my acceptance letters.
Since Gtown publicizes how many transfer apps they get each year, it actually looks like there wasn’t too much of an uptick in the number of apps they received. The number they accepted just went way down for some reason… I’ve also heard that the Gtown campus is going to be more crowded next year bc people aren’t travelling abroad, so it’s possible they don’t have enough physical space for more transfers?
yea it’s kinda weird how they extended the deadline tho.
I think it is safe to say that the theory of them not having enough applicants is out the window lol
It may just be that they wanted to be more lenient as a result of COVID.
I’m not entirely sure how different this year is from most years. GU’s website says that “With an entering transfer class of approximately 50-75 students per year, transfers are an important part of the new student community at Georgetown.” Nevertheless, the yearly admissions average for transfer students is around 200.
was this over the phone or by email?
Their yield is probably close to 50% so the acceptance rate is prob around 5.6%, which is still super low
oh ok, so did you also request by email? just wondering bc i also need to request an early read
yes, I emailed guadmiss@georgetown.edu. they forwarded it to the transfer committee chair.
thank you!!
I feel like some decisions will come out next week
You think after the 15th?
They needed to leave space for the people who took gap years:/ that’s why they could only accept a few transfers.
But the spots that are gonna be taken by gap year students are not the spots that transfer students are applying for.
Example: 2020 seniors defer from Class of 24 to 25, then college freshmen applying for sophomore transfer will be applying for 24 and not 25. So the spots that gap students take won’t affect us.
