Georgetown vs. JHU

<p>I am very VERY close to signing off on my letter of intent to Georgetown and sending in my deposit. I just want to make sure I am making the right choice...
I am ultimately undecided on my major; however I am thinking about English/Biology major and pre-law path (for patent law). But I am also heavily considering Business. I'm pretty interested in both paths really. My parents and family really think I am making the right choice with Georgetown (because of the MSB programs and their program that allows pre-law students with a 3.8+ to attend their law school). In terms of campuses, I definitely like Georgetown's more than JHU's.
However, JHU is #13 overall and definitely has a strong Biology ranking to deserve that rank. Also, I have been told that majors in business/economics aren't too bad either. I just really want to make sure I am making the right decision given my possible majors.
Thanks!</p>

<p>Simply put, when comparing gtown and jhu, gtown fits your interests much better</p>

<p>Thank you for your response. Although you said “simply put”, do you have any specific reasons that show this as well?</p>

<p>"because of the MSB programs and their program that allows pre-law students with a 3.8+ to attend their law school). "</p>

<p>That’s news to me. I should like, go to law school just to take advantage of this!</p>

<p>Wow I am in the exact same position - I am down to Georgetown vs. JHU. I am also leaning towards Georgetown, very close to sending the deposit because after GAAP weekend I have fallen in love with georgetown. I am also a Biology/English major!!! But am starting out in pre-med. Here are some reasons why I am leaning towards Georgetown: all the hoyas I have met so far (graduates from my high school, students during GAAP weekend, adults who went there, etc) absolutely love it there, and give off a genuine, well rounded, out going, and confident vibe. Georgetown people are amazing and I am dying to be part of the community! I also much much prefer the DC location for internships and stuff. Regents Hall is awesome and although less known for the sciences, I like that because the science environment seems more collaborative and not cutthroat at all.
It might seem crazy that a pre med would choose Georgetown over JHU, but I love how Georgetown is not only a place to study intensely, but also have some fun with some really awesome people.
We are both in the same situation - I hope what I have said helps to confirm your gut decision!
Good luck & Hoya Saxa :)</p>

<p>It’s true GU Law School will look at GU undergrads with a 3.8+ GPA. However, it is not an automatic admit. Students have to sign a “contract”, meet the requirements, and then apply to the Law School like every other applicant, the difference is, IIRC, no LSAT required.</p>

<p>@kgolfing1, actually what you have said really has confirmed my gut decision. I really really love Georgetown. The only question I had was actually about their sciences by comparison because I have been reading in some places that the sciences are REALLY bad. But seeing that you were impressed by the environment finally gives me that positive opinion of the programs.
Can anyone else discuss whether the sciences are strong at Georgetown?</p>

<p>This.</p>

<p>Both great schools. Both academically first tier.
Bio is stronger at JHU, but I suspect that most people would have more enjoyable undergrad experience at GU.
Since they are both so excellent, you should go where your gut tells you you’d be happiest.</p>

<p>I was accepted to both as well and I am very much leaning towards Georgetown. I feel that the location is better and from what I’ve heard, people seem to have more fun!</p>
