Would like input/advice on which school to apply to within Georgetown. My D23 will be applying to Georgetown EA and is deciding between the College of Arts and Sciences and the newly established (this year) School of Health.
Background/interests
Will pursue pre-med but uncertain what specific major at this point.
Strength in STEM - advanced math and double science Junior and Senior year
Interest in global affairs – double language (French and German) and active in MUN, also born abroad and a US/EU dual citizen
Key activities are sports including Track (Varsity 4 years and Co-captain Junior and Senior year), as well as Cross Country and Volleyball.
Medical shadowing and interface with Doctors and residents last two summers
Not really looking for a chance me, but here is some additional background:
White female
Attends selective private school
No financial constraints
GPA: 3.9 unweighted
ACT: 35
Legacy “hook” – although assume minimal impact
Basically the question is twofold:
Any advice as to which school to apply to given her background? Any information on School of Health in particular? (We’re familiar with the College)
Is there an advantage to applying to one school over the other in terms of admissions?
Not sure anyone will have info on school of health as so new. My d just graduated from Arts and Sciences - many of her friends were premed and all ended up getting into great med schools. From admissions point of view I think Arts and Sciences likes stem kids as they get a Huge number of applicants interested in government, political science etc but aren’t often on the list of the top stem kids.
Thanks for the insight. The School of Health, while new, is really just the School of Nursing and Health Studies now broken up formally into a School of Health and School of Nursing.
Good feedback/insight on STEM vs. government/political science. She knows several other kids from her high school that will be applying to Georgetown - but most to either SFS or to study government. So in that regard she would potentially stand out.
Ha yes then one very good friend of my d did graduate from that school and she got a great job in nursing. Her premed friends were at arts and sciences.
Students have been attending medical schools from liberal arts colleges and their equivalent divisions within universities for generations. In accordance with this, it would seem that the arts and sciences division at Georgetown would represent the more traditional choice for your daughter.
