Really, that website almost turned me off to applying at all.

No common app, but instead an application that you couldn't save and edit. You also couldn't go backwards. I had to restart it 4 times because of silly errors, which I should have been able to fix in 3 seconds flat.

Also, there was 1 spot for parent/guardian.
After much confusion, my solution was to put my parents in, "John & Jane Doe" style. But if I had a more complicated situation? Divorced parents? Parents with different last names?

These are just a few of my problems with the application. Try to use the rest of the site, and it only gets worse.

What I'm saying is, for one of the top universities in the US, Georgetown has a terrible website.

which makes me wonder what all the hype is about Gtown, i have forgotten why i was so excited about Gtown when i applied. It seems like their prestige comes from the world leaders that have studied there and their long history. out of all the schools i applied to, Gtown has not reached out to me at all or made the effort to court me as an applicant...

everyone raves about their programs and profs, can anyone give me some concrete examples? I agree about their website. especially study abroad info. just by comparing websites between GWU-Gtown-and AU, ive found that AU offers a much more comprehensive study abroad program.

Maybe someone can help reignite the fire that was inside me for Gtown?

ecapp, I feel the same way you do. I was deferred and now I have been waitlisted, forced to agonize for another month. SFS used to be my dream school, but I just don't know anymore.

I would caution against judging a book by its cover (or in this case, a university by its website).

With regard to study abroad, American does operate more programs abroad, while Georgetown only runs two "villa" programs, one in Italy and one in Turkey, as well as the SFS-Qatar campus. However, all that means is that Georgetown chooses to go through other programs for most of its study abroad (CIEE handles many of them, but there are numerous others). The study abroad options are numerous, including the possibility of Independent Study and direct matriculation to other universities. So just because a program doesn't have GU's name on it, the way that many of American's programs do, doesn't mean it's not a Georgetown-supported option.

Programs and profs:
Well, Foreign Policy magazine's 2007 ranking of International Relations programs put Georgetown's undergraduate program (and yes, there's no single IR program but many at GU) as 4th and its graduate as #1. In terms of professors, there's certainly the big names like Albright, Tenet, Natsios, Donna Brazille, and Tony Lake (Bill Clinton's national security advisor), but there is also a huge body of great professors who may not be household names. I'm thinking about people like John Esposito and John Voll (Islamic Studies, Arabic), Joseph Neale (Biology), or Richard America (Business Management).

dzleprechaun, I'm with you in the thing of not judging a book by its cover, but really I think we would all apreciate an online way to check your admission status, specially international students like me.

Many but many US universities let you do it on their websites.
