***Georgia Tech Class of 2020 EA Applicant Thread***

@4kids2graduate My school does because we have so many students that ranking would be so messed up if there was no weightage. Also, our school has A+, which is higher than 4.0 since it is a 97+. I have had 8 AP classes, 2 Dual Enrollment, 15 Honors, and 4 Regular classes in high school. It would not be fair if somebody was higher rank than me by just taking all regular. I would be pissed lol

@potatoheadhala I’m so worried. Georgia tech is such a lovely place! Integrated BS, MS and co-op <3

@Hermit9 So what do they look at in International student’s applications? I mean, here in Slovenia, we have a scaling grade of 1-5 and don’t have AP, Honours stuff or whatever… Are testing scores more relevant in this case?

Oh, and how does Gtech look at ACT subsections? I know the internet is filled with this information, but it’s different everywhere. Some say they convert Reading scores to SAT critical reading, and English/Writing scores to SAT writing … Does anyone know for sure?

Here is what somebody said: Georgia tech converts ACT math to SAT math, ACT English (not reading) to SAT critical reading, and ACT writing/English combined score to SAT writing.

Is this true?

@GustafAngus they have a conversion where a 29 is a 2000. But they don’t recalculate for freshmen admissions. They only convert if u are applying for dual enrollments

@4kids2graduate they only look at the GPA listed on your transcript. They said they honestly care more about what courses you have taken than what your GPA is. They would ideally prefer a student who has calc BC with a 3.7 GPA than a student who has a 4.0 with precalc being the highest math.

@Rohitmohit if u scroll back u can find that we discussed last years states-but u can also search it. Its on techs website. But rough idea- EA: 5 thousand some were accepted out of 11 thousand some. (45% acceptance rate). Major IT had calc taken or were taking it. I dont know the standardized test scores-but GPA was 3.75/3.8isj

@Xboxgamergirl there is not GPA stated on my transcript. There are the grades for each subject (Math, English, Physics ect) but GPAs have never been put on transcripts.
And REALLY? they won’t recalculate my ACT score to a SAT? Because I’ve been beating myself up lately for not sending my SAT scores aswell. I got a 28 on my ACT with a 33 in math and 29 in English, but only 20 in writing. And on my SAT I got a 660 in math, 600 in reading and 640 in writing section. I was worried that if they recalculate my ACT english/writing scores to SAT Writing, I’d only get around 550, 90 points lower than on my actual SAT score.

So they really don’t convert?

@GustafAngus on the site, they promise to superscore and ask you to send all scores. Schools in the south/midwest seem to use ACT more than SAT from what I’ve seen–because schools down here focus more on ACT.

@s16s18s21s25 Meaning… that they don’t convert?
Sorry, it’s just that this wait for the 9th is hard, and me thinking I hurt my chances by not sending SAT scores is making it even worse!

@GustafAngus yup! Like I said, they r more concerned with the class rigor. So if u got a b/a in hard classes-then u should be fine!

Is it just me or do you guys want to find out admissions right now?

@Xboxgamergirl And what is class rigor determined by? Does the counselor report the class rigor to them or do they just evaluate the classes you took and make an assumption?
Also, thank you very much for ALL your information, you have made this thread very useful for me and many others in answering questions that boggled us since applying!

@GustafAngus I’m not sure what you’re asking. I assume you sent in whichever scores were better, or if you sent more than 1 set they superscore. Whether they convert doesn’t matter because they know the equivalents and have ranges of ACT or SAT that they want. Maybe they convert SAT to ACT, who knows. Point is, most colleges accept both so you just submit your best scores (s).

They don’t super duper score anymore, for those who are wondering.

@GustafAngus - class rigor means that ur classes showed that u challenged yourself. If you had the choice to take a math class in senior year, u took it. Instead of taking regular physics, you took AP physics. If your school offered Calc AB and BC in the same year-you chose to take it.

They will look at your transcript and evaluate it. You don’t have to be taking super duper classes, but if u took 9-12 AP or college level classes (provided that your school offered them) you should be good!

@GustafAngus I think u are on the right path, u just gotta wait and find out now. Also, sorry for the late response-I’m at school.

@s16s18s21s25 That’s good to know, thanks! Yes, I did better on my ACT than SAT. I got a 1900 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT. I know this is about equivalent, but my math scores varied the most. I got 660 on my SAT, but a 33 on my ACT, which is why I didn’t send my SAT scores.
Thanks again to everyone, you helped me resolve my questions! Good luck on the 9th!

Hermit9 is right, this time, Tech is not super duper scoring, meaning, they are not going to convert ACT scores to SAT scores. They are just going to superscore ACT and SAT separately. This is because there is a lot of confusion with the new and old ACT and SATs.

For all you OOS and International applicants, the temperature in Atlanta this morning was 27° F!! B-) Currently 39° F (feels like 35° F). It was a chilly start to the day! Just a fun fact to share with y’all!
