***Georgia Tech Class of 2020 EA Applicant Thread***

Darn . . . my son is #1 in his class. Of 1. :stuck_out_tongue: (homeschooler)

Now I’m doing the geeky homeschool high 5 where you clap your own hands. :wink:

@Hermit9 you made my day pointing out the. Class rank thing

Also @Hermit9 and @CHCollege123 - lol, u guys are both correct and are both talking about 2 different things-hahaha. Class rank is not considered like @Hermit9 pointed. GPA is considered-yet not recalculated like @CHCollege123 pointed. Thanks for the info guys!! It made me feel better about my application!

@SouthFloridaMom9 Wow, so your son is dead last in his class and he brazenly applied?

I frankly don’t think any school should consider class rank. It’s meaningless, even in schools that rank based on weighted GPA–people who opt to take study halls instead of unweighted electives end up ranked higher because they never had the unweighted classes pulling their averages down.

@Xboxgamergirl did you say you went to SoFo HS? If so, may I ask where you are ranked in class? My son is in to 10% I didn’t realize so many students applied to Tech!

There are several students at my school who have never step foot in Honors or AP classes and are in the top twenty.Class rank really annoys me haha.

@MexitalianMom , I dont have a rank because my grades are messed up(they r from 3 different schools) - but I go with the the top 20% (my counselor told me to go with that)

Good one @Hermit9! :slight_smile:

Hey guys, I’m new here. I am applying Engineering, OOS. Good luck everyone! I was wondering, do you think it actually helps us applying EA or not really?

@soorvora Last year, 45% of those who applied EA were accepted. Only about 12% of those who applied RD were accepted.

So yes, if history repeats itself, the odds are definitely in our favor.

@orjioke33 hopefully!

Tech doesn’t wait list or defer students to protect its yield rate like some other schools do, right? cough WashU and UMich cough

I’m pretty sure Tech does defer students EA…maybe not every applicant like UMich does

I’m so worried! How much does being a female help if I’m an international? :))

@hellolol
Woah, good to see you here! (From Stanford EA 2020, if you remember)

@potatoheadhala Of course I do, Good to see you too! You applied early to Gatech?

Will I get in?
33 ACT (35 Math, 32 English, 34 Reading, 32 Science)
2200 SAT (800 Math, 770 Writing, 630 Reading)
800 Math Level II
750 Chemistry
8 APs (3 5s, 5 4s)
1 AP and 2 DE classes this year, rest honors
3.96/4.0 unweighted (4.434 weighted)
Rank 10/535
GT Supps (10/10 for both)
CommonApp Essay (7/10)
OOS Indian Male for BME

S16’s school only has unweighted GPA, so don’t really understand the weighted…but if there are weighted GPA’s, don’t they then look at transcripts to see what rigor you took and how your GPA compares to others who took less rigorous coursework? That only seems right, and fair…but I hear many objections to the system, so is it not reviewed that way?

@hellolol
Yup, I did. 3 days left!

Can someone tell me the statistics last year for how many were accepted/deferred/rejected?
