***Georgia Tech Class of 2022 EA Applicant Thread***

and service and mission work, soccer, ga tech is tough on OOS students.

…anybody know how much legacy helps (student’s dad - me - did BSEE 89 / MSEE 90). would this offset the OOS negative? :sunglasses:

the GA Tech CDS (section C7) has alumni relation as “considered” . So it may count for something but it’s not highly significant (i.e. listed as important or very important). It may help for a student on the bubble but I don’t think it’ll move the needle by a whole lot.

GaTech like most state sponsored schools has a mandate to meet for in-state students so the big delta in acceptance rates is related to how many IS vs OOS apply against the mandated IS percentage. There are a lot higher mandate levels in some other states, it’s just that GaTech is attracting a very large OOS pool.

Thanks for the info @ChattaChia

so does legacy help for in state students more than OOS?

I can’t even imagine myself getting accepted but I want it so badly.

Is there a breakdown of in-state and OOS admitted stats range? Is the OOS range much higher than the in-state one?

@bogeyorpar I have never seen something like that, but I would guess that the range is not drastically different when comparing out vs in state. Obviously it’s going to slightly differ as there is almost a difference of 30% between the acceptance rates. I’m thinking like 20-30 points diff on the SAT, a point on the ACT, and maybe .2 on the gpa. These are all guesses I’m making from what I’ve seen with the accepted and rejected students from my school the past couple of years, so keep that in mind.

On @ gtadmission on Twitter, they announced that they’ll be releasing over 18k decisions and they estimated the admit rate at 25%.

Proof?

So, about 4500 applicants will be happy this Saturday morning.

@Anxiety82379e28ndl I listed their username so anyone could look them up. I will admit, the twitter page is not verified or anything but the tweets on there lead me to believe that the page is legit.

Last year OOS admit rate was 18%. I know this because after my son was deferred he received an email regarding the freshman class.

This is the most helpful admissions info found on the website. http://www.irp.gatech.edu/admission-snapshots-0

Thanks for the link jym626. Great info there.
DD is one of the 18000 waiting. She is the only applicant from her HS as there is a real north west east coast bias in schools applied to from her HS. Hopefully this and her high tests scores gets her past the low sided UW GPA.

not to make you guys feel even more stressed but my OOS kid chose Ga Tech over a whole host of other schools around the country and as a junior, she could literally not be happier. And her 3 roommates (all different majors and from different states) feel the same way.

i went there as an OOS student back in the late 80s - i loved it there. some part of me wants my kid to go there too. :sunglasses: just so happens it’s the #1 school in bioengineering which he chose as his major. we live in california though and i really don’t want him go that far away. 8-( still hope he gets accepted so at least he has a choice. waiting on pins and needles for decision on saturday! good luck to all!

are the ga tech act average scores of 33 superscored 33 or just composite 33??

@pscyhlit99 Tech takes your highest score for each section that they receive, so yes it is a superscored 33.
