Are you admitted for fall or summer?
Someone else on reddit got off for MechE but that person has to go the France Campus first semester
Congrats! Which major?
fall
In Atlanta? Or France? Will you accept?
I think Atlanta, but Iâm not sure. Does the email so say because mine doesnât. Also, I may accept. I was accepted into Emory, so Iâll try to see the campuses this weekend.
I would think if you had been offered a position in France your letter would say so. Congratulations on Georgia Tech and Emory!
He didnât
Summer in France, zero scholarship, itâs unbelievable
Aerospace
Weâre going to decline, too far and too expensive
That is the other thing. The cost of getting to France is significant and the cost of being in France is much more than the Atlanta campus. My oldest son was supposed to go last summer and there was an additional $5000 fee which I think has gone up, $800 for the Eurail pass, plus I donât believe food is included, etc.
That was why I was wondering if your child said he was willing to do it, because there is significant cost involved. Good luck to your son at Stevens!
Sorry to hear that. Good luck for wherever you decide to go.
The other issue with the first semester France option is very few classes, other than electives, will be available to freshmen (most have prerequisites). Many classes are upper level. For example, they are only offering English 1102, which requires English 1101 or placement out with an AP, and upper level math (which requires placing out of Calc 1 and 2). If someone opts to go without these prerequisites being met, they may be taking electives which will mean that they donât have them for later to cushion harder semesters. Hopefully the kids considering this option will take the time to look at not only the cost but the available classes and whether they have prerequisites met to construct a useful schedule. All of the information about the program is available on the GT website.
Still itâs France!! Hah
It is. And an admit to GT. But $$$ and taking classes most freshmen donât need. I understand that lots of schools are offering these abroad semesters to expand their freshman class. UNC started this last year. But spending 15K plus over the cost of an Atlanta semester to take elective classes that wonât count towards your major doesnât seem like a great deal. Maybe I am missing something? If they want to do this, they need to offer the freshman Gen Ed classes required in France so the kids that choose to go to France first Semester make some progress towards their degree.
Oh I agree with you on all of that. Just oohing and ahing over France! Not sure I would even want to send my kid to France yet. Although not sure I should be talking right now. My kid is supposed to leave for an internship in Israel on June 1 which right now is still going. Not sure myself how that can be when no US flights are going but anything can change and sheâs been there before so we are at least familiar with the country. Here we thought covid would be the issue not a potential war
Also check out the Michigan WL thread and see what they told one of the waitlist groups there. Overenrolled in that major (probably more) and offering a potential spring admit with many restrictions. Not worth it!
do yall think that Georgia tech will offer spring admission?
No. Never have. What has been offered today to instate and out of state applicants is to start in France for fall and move to Atlanta in the spring. This is a really expensive option and doesnât really allow them to make much progress towards their degree.
Are we expecting any more offers or is this it? It looks like the offers made were for France so does that mean that any future or upcoming offers will be off-campus admission?
