Georgia Tech Class of 2025- Waitlist Thread

Go to France. The program is amazing - everyone who does it raves about it. And it gets you into GT. So sorry it was cancelled last year due to COViD. You will not regret it for many reasons.

My son got an email about re-assessing the waitlist spot. They said they have offered spots to 130 students. Did everyone get it?

My son got that email too.

My son got it. He is playing tennis so has not responded but I am sure he will stay on (I guess that is what they are asking). I am very glad they are doing this because at least a portion of the huge number of people on the waitlist may well have changed their plans since March.

What did it say? Curious . . .

It says if you want to remain on the WL do nothing. If you want to leave the waitlist click here.

Also mentions they’re close to filling their class and have offered 130 WL spots. Will update again in June but encourage you to attend your committed school.

Thanks. That makes sense. I asked him if he responded, and he said “nothing I am playing tennis”

That’s more than my response. I asked if he saw it and got “yeah” back. Although today is last day of school and I think there’s some celebratory stuff going on and then tennis for him too, lol. I’m sure he’s doing nothing.

My son has been finished with school since May 10th after his AP French exam and he is living the life of Riley. In the last 24 hours he has played golf, basketball and tennis  Well deserved!

Ha!! & us in NJ still have a month of school to go. :frowning:

& after seeing the email we celebrated for a couple of seconds before realizing what it was…Oh well!!

Any idea if it will move again before June

Or close??

Not until June based on the email.

My son read me the email and I took it as they will be back in touch in June to reconfirm waitlist interest. No idea whether it will move between now and then . . . I know last year kids were told they were off the waitlist in mid August. Hoping they wrap it up sooner than that!

Oh I forgot you’re in Georgia. You all start ridiculously early, like Aug 1 or something too, right? My kids were always still at camp when our friends in Atlanta would be starting school. I remember thinking how strange that was.

We start at the end of August. Seniors always get the privilege of getting out earlier than everyone else. So their last day was today, they graduate the 27th and everyone else goes until the 28th. Which is still earlier than it’s supposed to be if not for covid by 1 week (for the others). Our prom is the first weekend in June and he has to take his last 2 AP Exams just before graduation so studying isn’t done yet!

It looks like last year was very different situation. Lots of kids got off waitlists due to unanticipated COVID impact. However, this year the number of WL movement seems to be much less across most colleges. Maybe they calculated yield based on last year and offered many more admissions?!
With every passing day and week, it’s looking less likely. Hope that it moves though for all of our sake.

@WorriedButNot - We are OOS and got that email from GT, about re-assessing the waitlist offer. I think it went out to everyone then.

We are! We don’t start that early though. Usually around mid August and then we get out late May. The last day for seniors was Friday, but you finished earlier if you had taken all of your AP tests. He has been enjoying his break and graduates on Saturday❤️

Georgia Tech did not offer many more admissions this year. I think I read it was around 100. What I am hearing about is that many kids have opted for top state schools after not getting into Ivies as expected. I know you can’t expect to get into an Ivy, but these are very top kids from top schools in the state who normally send a hefty percentage to the Ivy League. I’ve heard about this in other parts of the country, which is why schools like Georgia Tech and UVA predict very little waitlist movement. Of course those are the two schools my son is on the waitlist😳

@VirginiaBelle Thanks! My son is also waitlisted for an Ivy but between the 2, he will likely pick Tech because of his affinity for technology in general. But I know what you are saying.
& jealous that school is already done for you guys…though I know I feel happy when we have a month of summer vacation left and our friends in GA start in August. :grinning:
